Yesterday, I volunteered for the Akita Beach Clean-up club's trip to Shimohama beach along the Sea of Japan, with Kei, Heather, Danie, Cherry, Ken, McKenzie, Tomomi, Koudai, Aya, and 4 ABC members. It's about 30 minutes away from AIU by car, and 480円 from Wada to Shimohama station. I thought it was a good opportunity to visit a beach for free, ( Read more... )

Yay for beach cleanup! :) Looks like you had fun.

If your meat was in a freezer, then it should have been OK indefinitely, but it's always a good thing to use up whatever you have before getting more. Also, soy sauce makes almost any food taste better!

Yup! :D

Well, it was in the fridge, but right under/near the freezer? The pack couldn't fit in the mini-ref's freezer cabinet. But hehe I was just scared :< Maybe I'll give it a day or two after the 'best by..'. date, next time. How about other stuff like onions and garlic and eggs? How long do those last? My eggs have a 'best by' date too but they're also in the ref.

I honestly don't know about these best-by dates. I think you can use any product after its best-by date, but be careful to observe for bad smells or weird stuff growing on it especially with meat.

You can also test eggs for freshness - I never learned how but Google should help :)

Onions and garlic can be used until they start sprouting - sometimes you can just cut off the sprouty part and still use the rest. I don't think I ever had to store cut onions because I always used them up when cooking, but if you have to do that you probably need to figure out a use for the leftover right away or else it'll dry out and/or stink up the ref. Garlic lasts for a long time if unpeeled. Just break off the number of cloves you need and prepare that. Keep your onions and garlic in a cool, dry place so there's less risk of mold.

Hope this helps!
