tktrix Bridge slipped into his seat near the rear of the classroom. He was right on time, meaning that he was late. It was stacking up to be a long day.
"One of these days, Bridge," came the quiet grumbled remark, "You're gonna really be late, and then you'll regret it."
Bridge gave a sheepish half-smile to his roommate. "Already did once, remember? And I'm not fond of being stuck on latrine duty for a week." He shuddered slightly.
"Ten-hut!"
The barked command echoed across the room as Lieutenant Erin sauntered into the classroom. "At ease, cadets," she spoke easily. "Now," she turned to the blackboard and began scrawling across its surface, "who can tell me the answer to this equation?"
A soft groan came from behind Bridge and he glanced across his shoulder at his fellow teammate. "What's the matter, Z?" he whispered.
"This!" she replied in a hushed tone as she jabbed the open textbook on her desk with a finger, "Why do we need to know physics to save the world? Not like it makes any difference when we're fighting giant robots."
"But it does," Bridge countered, shifting slightly in his seat. "Just think of all the complex equations and schematics Kat has to put together to make our equipment. Or the science behind our computer technology. Without physics and other scientific..."
"Cadet Carson!"
Bridge snapped his head around at the sound of his name to find the instructor glaring down at him. "Do you have something of importance to enlighten the rest of the class with? Or do you particularly enjoy disturbing your fellow cadets?"
"No sir...err ma'am. I meant no ma'am."
"Then perhaps you know the answer to my question."
"Um...the equation you mean?"
She gave him a disapproving look, "Don't tell me you weren't paying attention, Cadet. That's not becoming of a Ranger, you realize."
"Yes ma'am. Uh, no ma'am...I mean..."
"Carson!"
Bridge shut his mouth with an audible snap and forced himself not to go sliding under his desk. Lt. Erin wasn't one to be lightly crossed.
"I'll expect a ten-page missive from you on the importance of physics in relation to your duties as a Power Ranger. On my desk by 1600 today. Understood?"
"Yes ma'am," Bridge replied softly.
She strode off back to the front of the room and Bridge groaned slightly, resting his head on his hands.
"Sorry Bridge," Z spoke softly.
He glanced at her and gave her a faint smile and shrug. Sky merely rolled his eyes and shook his head, then went back to scribbling notes.
Bridge dutifully took his own notes interposed with starting out on his paper. It was going to be a very long day indeed.
