Exercise 1. Make your own inspirational Diva (or Divo) collage. Identify your role models of Divine qualities. Look for love, passion, beauty, strength, power, vision, persistence, loyalty, grace, gentleness, courage, integrity, charisma, style, and authenticity. Find pictures in magazines of people who inspire you to cut out and put in your Diva Diary. Label each one with the quality you want, so you'll always remember why you chose this person.
Joe--
oakthorne--Charisma
Joe is the most charismatic person I know. Most everyone that knows him compains that they don't get enough time around him. He is calming and cuddly and all sorts of wonderful things, but most of all he in Ungodly Eloquent! Somewhere between one too many counseling sessions, alot of booklearning, his spiritual questing, and his natral writing talent this person who always says the right thing emerged. He is always tactful. He is a master of persuasion. When we were roomates there were times I felt like the threads of reality were bending to make Joe right. This is a person who could convince me that the sky is green and always has been. It's quite surreal at times. Fortunately he only uses his power for good.
India Arie--
--confidence
This woman is chosen on pure attitude. My baby sister gave me a lecture a few months back on how I need more self-confidence and played one of her songs for me. I have to admit she had a point. This is the song.
Verse 1
Sometimes I shave my legs and sometimes I don’t
Sometimes I comb my hair and sometimes I won’t
Depend of how the wind blows I might even paint my toes
It really just depends on whatever feels good in my soul
Chorus
I’m not the average girl from your video
And I ain’t built like a supermodel
But I learned to love myself unconditionally,
Because I am a queen
I not the average girl from your video
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I’m wearing I will always be
India.Arie
Verse 2
When I look in the mirror and the only one there is me
Every freckle on my face is where it’s suppose to be
And I know my creator didn’t make no mistakes on me
My feet, my thighs, my Lips, my eyes, I’m loving what I see
Chorus
Verse 3
Am I less of a lady if I don’t where panty hose
My momma said a lady ain’t what she wears but what she knows…
But I’ve drawn the conclusion, it’s all an illusion
Confusion’s the name of the game
A misconception, a vast deception,
Something got to change
Now don’t be offended this is all my opinion
Ain’t nothing that I’m saying law
This is a true confession
Of a life learned lesson
I was sent here to share with y'all
So get in when you fit in
Go on and shine
Clear your mind
Now’s the time
Put your salt on the shelf
Go on and love yourself
‘Cause everything’s gonna be alright
Chorus
Out
Keep your fancy drink, and your expensive minks
I don’t need that to have a good time
Keep your expensive cars and your caviar
All’s I need is my guitar
Keep your crystal and your pistol
I’d rather have a pretty piece of crystal
Don’t need you silicone, I prefer my own
What god gave me is just fine…
Chorus
I think the first two verses are the best. Wow what confidence huh!
Natalie Portman--
--grace
Natalie is obviously drop dead gorgous. However, I didn't choose her for her style. Sometimes she looks like she's downplaying her looks, and others it's obvious someone else dressed her. What she has going for her is a natural grace. Not only does she always look poised and elegant but she keeps a pretty full plate. Natalie took quite a bit of time off of work for college, making just enough movies to keep her name known. She knows what she wants and makes decisions to make it all possible.
I'll have to continue this later. I've never really been one for role models. There's lots of actresses I follow, but mainly because I like looking at them. Fortunately I ordered the book online today so I should have a little extra time to work on this particular exercise. There's a part two where I come up with small things I can do to help nurture these charecteristics in me. I don't have any ideas yet.
