Paula sighed and stared unseeing at her datapadd, the novel she’d begun the night before not capturing her attention. She felt almost like new, most of her
injuries from the away mission healed but when she’d returned to Sickbay for her checkup that morning Dr. Xin had ordered her to remain off duty for two more days, and then restricted her to half-days for another week. Disappointed but resigned to a little more idle time, she had gone to lunch, the chatter and bustle in the mess cheering her up as she lingered over her soup and grilled cheese sandwich.
Her inbox had been full of messages when she arrived back in her room and sat down at the console. One was from Jim, a hurried note asking how she was and letting her know Leonard (she grinned, noticing he wasn’t ‘Leonard’ but ‘Bones’, the nickname she’d heard only from Jim) was doing as well as could be expected. A note from Hikaru made her grin, his bridge shift apparently slow and uneventful today. Another was from Commander Spock’s yeoman… apparently he was away on fleet business, and had delegated some work in his absence. Paula sent quick replies to all three (her reply to Hikaru just suggestive enough to distract him from his boredom, she hoped), leaving the rest to deal with later.
Maybe she would check on Leonard later on, see if he was up to having visitors, Paula mused sleepily as she lay curled up on the sofa, the datapadd resting on her chest as she drifted off.
