Browsing the web, I came across some clips of Cheng Man Ching, my tai chi 'hero'. They took a long time to download (I possibly have held up a few shiploads of gov business in the meantime) but, given my fascination for this person and his art, I feel chuffed to have seen him in action at long last. Ouch, the mpgs are a bit big to download, even from work (need to wait when I'm in very late at one point) but the second file is OK.

The rooting bit is the most difficult aspect of Tai Chi to master. tor-yus are a great way to train it but the tricky thing is to use those principles all the time.

I just downloaded the two smaller files and especially the sword clip is quite impressive. He's always in control while the others (who are most likely practicioners themselves) flail about and try to keep their balance. ;o)

Yes, it's as if they don't have a chance from the start. The push hands is similar. I'm impressed by the solidity of his stance. There's one move where he pulls a guy one way then back round (the tall bloke) and another where he pushes away but keeps hold of the wrist. In that, the line of force appears perfectly straight. It's all a bit spooky.
