Good Things No.s 246 - 254

These were written as we went along...

- I made a Mountain Cake! Am proud of myself!

- We're on holiday! Train journey to Carbis bay, the last bit from St Erth especially with some beautiful sea views, Jack barrelling up the platform to give his Great Uncle Ken a huge hug and a lovely late afternoon walk on the beach. Ken & Helen live about 10 minutes walk from Carbis Bay Beach, which is just lovely, in a lovely house. Bliss

- Managed not to be completely thwarted by my stoopid head and the rain, and walked down to St Ives. Had a fab lunch in a beach café, watched Jack clambering up and down the harbour wall using the ropes tethering the boats and looked round the shops. Helen bought everyone fudge, Jack acquired a new plastic boat and I started my C*****m** shopping. There was a lovely (I think I might somewhat overuse that word this week!) moment when Jack was sitting chatting and laughing with Ken - both of them having a great time.

- Today I was mostly thwarted by the head, but still managed regular visits from the little man to make sure I was ok, heat up my wheat bag etc. He took his Dad down to the beach and cane back to tell me all about the caves they found and how cool they were etc. It was really good to know he was having such a good time in spite of my head.

- We spent the morning on the beach, exploring caves, picking up shells and splashing about in the sea - Jack and Daddy were kicking the waves as they came in which resulted in Jack ending up in the surf a couple of times. Back up to the house for lunch and then Ken drove us out to Godrevy Point to explore. And explore we did! We went about a mile and a half down the coast line, scrambling over rocks, clambering back up to the top of the cliffs, back down on to the rocks, looking at spectacular rock formations and waves crashing into caves, standing and looking out at the sea and the lighthouse on Godrevy Island (Jack wanted to swim over to it - we thought that might be a bit difficult!). We finished up with Cornish ice-cream and a sleeping little boy. Perfect day.

- More time spent on the beach, just down the hill, after buying lunch for us all. I really feel we are getting to know them well, and becoming quite close, which is lovely. They are great with Jack too.

- This morning, Uncle Ken did something wonderful. He showed Jack how the roof of his camper van pops up to make a special sleeping place for little boys. Jack was entranced and decided we have to get a camper van with a pop up roof. I actually agree! There was also another day out - to Sennen Cove. More beach, sand, walking and scrambling. And the added bonus of surfers to oggle watch. Jack demonstrated a talent for route finding and leaping from boulder to boulder in a way that frightens Mummy, but seems to amuse him no end!

- Jack clambering up the harbour wall in St Ives, fighting Darth Maul at the top quite exuberantly, then being hitted down the hole (sliding down the wall, hanging on to the rope) then scrambling back up to hit Maul down the hole. He provided a great deal of amusement for passers by and gained Mummy and Daddy some disapproving looks.

- Sitting in the living room (taking a break from packing) listening to the laughter from swing-ball games outside on the lawn.
