Bike packing
I gathered up the stuff I have for long distance touring today, and tried packing it all up. Surprisingly, everything fit into two panniers and a trunk. While I don't have every last thing packed, I do have the majority of it piled up here, especially the bulky stuff. I think that this means I'll be able to make my trip without bringing along my trailer. While it makes packing a little more complicated, I don't have to worry about the weight of the trailer, and extra tire to puncture, or the added hassle of riding with a trailer. I knew that I'd replaced a lot of my bulkier items with smaller things, but being able to dispense with the entire trailer is amazing.
I'll need to pick up front panniers in order to hold the food and extra water I'll need for the Australian Outback and the American Southwest. While I'm biking through more civilized areas I may end up either mailing them ahead or sending them home.
