We took our regular overnight flight to Frankfurt, Germany. Because the trip was for business, we were able to fly business class. What a difference it makes! I was actually able to sleep about four hours instead of my usual very interrupted two. I guess it also helps not having the kids with us.
After a six hour layover in Frankfurt, we boarded another plane for Cairo. This is a four hour flight. All in all, the trip took almost a full day. At one point it suddenly hit me that we lost a whole day making this trip.
After checking into the Four Seasons in Cairo and being treated like a queen (one of the employees at the hotel actually said to me, "Please, let me take your bag. It looks heavy."), I took a long bath and then went to sleep. Ahhhhh... it felt so good to finally snuggle up into the down comforter.
The next days were crazy busy. We spent two days hunting for a place to live once we move over there. We had some very specific desires, all of which were met... the place needed to be bright, I wanted to be able to walk our kids to school, we needed at least four bedrooms, I wanted a space for my studio, we wanted some outdoor space, and a pool would be a nice extra. I still can't believe we actually got all of those!
I now understand A LOT better what John goes through on his business trips! What a crazy crazy week it was. We actually got back last Thursday... I mean, I've been home a little over a week, but it's taken me that long to recover! I was totally wiped out! Now I'm feeling much better and I'm facing all the preparations for this huge move.
It's an amazing city.... a beautiful country. Yes, it's very different, but I think we're really going to have an fabulous experience. We did get to do some sight seeing at the Pyramids of Giza for a few hours. I'm still in awe of those things! How on earth did they do that?!!!!! We climbed up in one of the largest pyramids.... just amazing.
I think there was more to say, but I was just interrupted... I have to go take care of some stuff. I'm leaving tomorrow for Ocean City, NJ... spend a few days with my parents and sisters. I'm looking forward to this time. I can't wait to hear the ocean!!!
Tell me, how are you all doing? I'm feeling very out of touch. Right now sometimes it's all I can do to keep up day to day... but I miss not knowing what's going on in your lives...
xoxoxo.
