We were flicking through a couple of mainstream parenting mags yesterday and in one we found an announcement that they were following WHO guidelines, stopping all formula advertising in their magazine and promoting extended breastfeeding, this made us very happy ( Read more... )

Hey, question!
As a non-momma, I'm curious... how long can/will you boobfeed baby Lil? I've only ever been surrounded by typical tradition... you know the drill... but am very open to other options, and would love to hear your take :) You've been a great mum since Lil's birth (I still remember when you were pregnant! Whoa!) and I've always admired you from afar. Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to breastfeed for minimum 2 years then go from there depending on how Lil and I are feeling.
I think we'll start night weaning around her 2nd birthday because the nights are starting to kill me but i'm happy to day feed for as long as she wants.

I feel you on this. Every single time I nurse Blake around my sister in law, she asks when I'm going to wean him. And every single time I tell her that my own personal minimum is two years, and after that, I want him to lead the way. When is she going to get it, shut up, and leave me alone??

I'm gradually weaning Neo, but not really pushing it. And fuck- if you and Lil aren't having a problem with it... screw everyone else!

Oh, sorry, should I start breastfeeding calves? my milk is clearly more nutritional than their mothers milk.

Heh. I need to remember that one for when people give me the formula lecture. I had one random woman on a train pretty much argue I was abusive to my kids because neither of them had had formula.

As for the dairy thing... if dairy's so wonderful, why are so many people lactose intolerant or allergic to it? Not saying I don't have milk in my coffee or enjoy the odd bit of cheese every so often, but... cow's milk = designed for baby cows. It kind of amuses me that we've taken one species and gone, "Their milk is for US!" I mean, do we drink monkey milk? Horse milk? It seems surreal, yanno?

Totally agreed.
We're gradually night weaning (rather lax right now but i'm hoping around her second birthday she'll be done with night feeds) but i'm happy with day feeding for as long as she wants, I just need some sanity at night.
How does Neo sleep?

We should catch up sometime...

Oh, the sleep sitch is HELL. Neo wakes up at about four every morning, but we've got him in his and Lew's room (it helped that Lewis was sleeping in there though) and I'm decreasing the night feeding. He usually sleeps on Petri's side of the bed and only comes over if he's really tired.

I'm cutting down on the day feeding, too, but every now and then still do it.

We should! I bet Lil's really big now! Neo is... he's REALLY full on and everything. Ever seen Dogma? He's like a miniature version of Matt Damon in that film. :)

Lil sleeps worse when we have Zed because he won't sleep with the light off but she needs complete darkness and she wakes up and wants to play with him in the middle of the night.

Lil was the easiest baby, she is the most high needs, full on, intense toddler.
She's exactly the same so they'll probably love each other.
I would love for Lew to meet Zed as well.
What's your number?

I have a 6.5 year old kid who is MORE secure & independent then most of her friends and guessss what? She was nursed for 32 months! I have seen zero negative effects her extended nursing had on her behavior/personality/being, rather the opposite, my kid is rarely sick & she's about as awesome and secure as kids come.
I hate how people try and get all up in your/my business about what foods are put in our or our childrens mouths. how about it's none of your business!!!

he swears by the stuff and it is LITERALLY liquid gold
why then can you sell the stuff your body makes for nearly 3 dollars a freakin ounce! because some people cant make it themselves.

yeah.....go chew on that jerks. fuck them all and feed away mama! wish i coulda done it :(
