LJ Interests meme results

  1. bloom county:
The greatest comic strip of all time, with the occasional exception of Calvin & Hobbes. Topical without being overbearing, heartwarming, hilarious and distressfully insightful. Berkeley Breathed is a master of all things, but especially of putting penguins in odd hats.
  2. dilbert:
The most acerbic. Thing. Ever. Dry and despairing, but oddly inspiring. Scott Adams is a lord of divining the common ludicrities of mankind, and his sparse artistic style makes his points all the more compelling. Easily the best strip currently in syndication.
  3. earthsea:
I came to LeGuin at a very early age. Before Tolkien. Before Weis and Hickman. WELL before Harry Potter (which is really just a low-class rip off of WIZARD) was LeGuin, with her irrestitably quiet and introspective style. Her characters are subtlty personified, her plots zen expositions on the innermost workings of the human psyche. And they're just damn good books, all right?
  4. hating george w. bush:
Need I say more? The man has almost single-handedly destroyed the framework of American democracy. He is a murderer and a liar. He is also something of a complete and utter idiot, with an odd gift of blatant animal cunning that has kept him in office this long. He must be stopped. Or at least (unfortunately) endured.
  5. liberalism:
Only recently would I have identified myself as a liberal. I have slowly and precipitously been discovering this aspect of myself, and am now completely content to define myself as a rabid left winger in most respects. Which doesn't mean I like democrats, by the way.
  6. metal:
An occasional interest, though only when interpsersed with intelligence and some sense of musicianship. For example, Lake of Tears or Ice Age (or, as they apparently want to be known, Soul Fracture). Driving guitars, soaring lyrics, intelligence abounding. No Cannibal Corpse for me, thanks. Though their album covers are amusing, I'll admit.
  7. mystery science theatre 3000:
The single best thing ever to grace the airwaves of television. Hilarious beyond belief, witty beyond human conception, and chock full of an eccentric artistic integrity, the rampant antics of Mike & crew have provided me with more joy than any other aspect of popular media. I watch it constantly, and am always ready to expand my obscene collection. And just one word: Mitchell!
  8. progressive rock:
This goes hand-in-hand with metal, I suppose. I enjoy progressive metal, not the rampant head-banging tripe currently in vogue throughout much of the (charitably titled) civilized world. Progressive rock can either be irritating or beautiful, depending on the approach of the musician. Example: Mars Volta are irritating and erratic. Rush are groovy.
  9. robotech:
My first exposure to anime, and the entity that originally sculpted my latent storytelling skills. The very first writing I ever did was Robotech fanfic, and my love abides to this day. Captain Gloval is one of the most incredible and dynamic charactersa ever concocted, and I have all the Macross box sets. Still waiting on the Dana series and subsequent outings, however....
  10. sex:
Well, this is a given. I lost my virginity about two years ago to a beautiful and incredible girl (who I still have the privilege of making love to on a regular basis). When not being plagued by my obsessions concerning this topic, sex is my foremost interest. Well, that and love. They sort of go hand in hand, you know.
