2013

I always like to do a little roundup of the year and i’ve been thinking about what I would do for the last week or so and thinking what goals I would like to set for 2014.

I feel like it’s good to have a goal or aim for the year that helps you work towards something, to go after something. But this year I’ve learned that our goals and dreams aren’t necessarily the ultimate thing. A lot of people use the saying ‘People make plans and God laughs at them.’ I’ve discovered that people are using this in a very negative way and maybe we have missed the meaning of it. I don’t think we make plans and God laughs at them in a mean way; I feel like it’s a more fatherly chuckle, almost as if He says ‘Oh my child, I have much more for you than you can possibly dream of - its wilder and more exciting.’

Maybe that’s naive but the theme for me this year has been ‘dream’. And I feel like we need to dream big. What’s the point in dreaming if you don’t dream big. The important thing is what you dream of and who you dream with, as I wrote about in an earlier post.

So as we enter 2014, I intend to dream big. I intend to be diligent in this and in what I believe God has for me. 2013 saw me move out of a job to pursue counselling. Dooboy’s dream continued with his new job, and seeing him make this huge step fanned the flames of my dreams and enabled me to pursue counselling. In terms of photography, it all started a few years ago when I challenged myself to blog every month with something so I might start that up again as it kept me diligent and helped me improve. And in terms of relationships and church, I intend to be diligent, to watch my tongue, guard my thoughts, move with the Lord and keep true to who I am in Him. I love that my life is multi-faceted.

2013 was a difficult year - a lot of dreams were challenged or delayed and relationships were tested - but so much fruit came out of it that it’s a hearty goodbye and not a thank-goodness-it’s-over kind of goodbye. It’s always good to be able to say that.

Happy New Year and God bless.
