Relationship

I've been thinking recently about how God speaks and how we hear Him. Its funny how we tend to forget some of the things He says to us as individuals - I would be so annoyed with someone if they did that to me!!

Sometimes we are searching for an answer and He has already given us the keys to it before. But because we want a quick fix and want to know everything straight away we miss the journey.

Ive also been thinking about how we have a relationship with God and how we know we love Him... is it because of His hand or His heart? is it His gifts or His presense?

This is someone outside time, who created me and knows every little intimate thing about it - yet someone who I try and hide my bad bits from. This is someone who died for me and intercedes for me and sometimes I can't take responsibility for my own part in it.

What scares us about someone who created us, knows us and desires us? Why do we find it hard to be vulnerable - is it because He knows what we can be and who we really are in Him? What stops us running to His open arms for strength and encouragement and support, his grace and mercy and love - when there is nothing of its sort on this earth?

Have we fallen that far into apathy, into entertainment and distraction, lack of hope and quick fulfillment that we no longer believe the truth, that we can no longer wait for satisfaction? Have we created a wall of denial that means we won't fight for what God has for us and just settle for whatever falls over the wall?

What does it mean to be in a relationship with God? It is a love story - for here is someone who has known you from before you existed, who created you as a whole, who has never left your side, who cried with you and laughed with you even if you didn't know He was there, who asked could He come in, who breathed life into us. And that's where the enemy starts to fight back and where our choices play around with us because we start to forget to be vulnerable, we start to question more and more, we forget to find joy even in the darkest moment and so slowly we become a really bad partner and lover and person in the relationship.

I don't think I am in a relationship with God only for the knowledge and peace He can give me about my own life and the certainty of salvation. Nor is it about the gifts and the "fame" and position.
It has to be relationship.
