I have an off brand mp3 player.  I'd like your input on a music downloading site that will let me:

-download music to my computer and mp3 player without having to purchase the song.  (This is primarily for my spinning class music).

-if I want to purchase the song--purchase the song and have the rights management to rip it to a cd.

I tried Rhapsody ( Read more... )

Limewire is a free program you can use to download music. I have a mac though, and I hear people with PC's sometimes get viruses when using it...so use at your own risk, I suppose. You can also upload your own cds to your computer and then download them to your MP3 Player. the same goes for when you buy any songs. Do you have ITUNES on your computer? where do you keep all your music?

oh and there's also good music downloading groups right here on livejournal... I think I'm in the group called "volumize". It's a great way to get music.

OOOh! that's good to know... I might have to join!

Kaden... I've used Limewire on my PC and it's been fine. You can pay or not pay, depending on how good you want to be. :)

Well, it's kinda like napster that way. I can download stuff there for free (and Adam can attest to its porn collection, I am sure), although I have not done it in a while. You just download the program and it's a "sharing" thing, just like napster was/is. That said, you could always try napster, though I don't know the details of it.

see, I'm looking to obtain the use of more music than what I have already on CD--so I'd like to be able to, even temporarily, use new music--not stuff I already have on CD.

Yeah, I know a lot of mac users use limewire. Thanks for the tips--hopefully more will roll in. fwiw, when I put music on the computer, I just store it in my music. I'm not huge into music--this is mostly for the class I teach. SHould I be keeping it somewhere else?

Thanks!!!

I would definitely download ITUNES. It's free and a REALLY easy and great way to keep your music together. you can also make and burn playlists that would TOTALLY help with what you need.
