getting ready for winter

I was working outside, trying to get my firewood covered again, and it's damn cold out there. My face was starting to hurt and it's only in the mid 20's right now. I guess I haven't gotten used to the cold yet this year. And/or I'm getting old.

I've got covers for the firewood made from a couple of sheets of chipboard. I had repainted them a few weeks back, so I hope they'll last a while longer now. I filled up my firewood storage in the garage, then moved a bunch of wood from the back pile to under the covers. The back pile is now smaller. I had plastic sheeting over that, but it was disintegrating so i had to buy new plastic, restack some of the wood, and try to get the plastic weighted and tied down. I hope it stays there through the winter.

The pile of branches and sticks nearby it is getting pretty big. I should probably try to burn it. Maybe next weekend.

I finally brought the hoses in. I had forgotten about them, and it's been below freezing for the last several days. The one on the south side of the house had water in it, but the one in front was frozen solid. I had to put it in the basement to thaw.

They're finally paving the road next to our house. They're turning the shallow ditch into a deep ditch. They're cutting off access to my shed from the road. I'd need to have a culvert put in if I wanted to be able to drive across the ditch now. It's annoying because I asked the town if I'd be able to retain access, but they didn't answer.
