Happily skipping into the 2nd trimester

Well, I’ve made it through the first trimester! I couldn’t be happier right now.

Every Wednesday, I cross over to the next week of pregnancy. Every Wednesday I feel an immense feeling of joy and happiness, waking up knowing that our sweet baby is still in the womb. I’ve learned to treasure every day, every week, every second. Every symptom of pregnancy, regardless of how irritating it may be at the moment, I consider a privilege. It is a symptom of this baby’s strength. I’ve had to rely on the morning sickness, aversion to food, and mood swings as reminders that this baby is still there, since he or she is still too small for me to feel (although I should hopefully start feeling the baby soon!).

The nausea really has subsided this past week or so. The exhaustion hasn’t, but at least I don’t feel the need to throw up as often. Also, my aversion to food is starting to get better as well. I stocked up on cottage cheese, mandarin oranges, carrots, celery, bagels, cream cheese, and V8 yesterday. The cottage cheese tasted so good, and so did the oranges and V8 (haven’t had any of the other stuff yet). I bought two avocados too, but unfortunately the one I cut into wasn’t ripe yet
Bummer.

It’s so nice to be able to eat recommended foods without wanting to gag. I’m starting to lose my intense cravings for McDonalds. Lately I’ve been craving potatoes and gravy from KFC, which I suppose is better than craving double cheeseburgers and fries! I’m still digging pizza, but it’s not a daily occurrence like the McDonalds cravings were, so not much has changed there.

I actually baked chicken and made potatoes, gravy, and crescent rolls last Sunday! I was so proud of myself for spending that much time in the kitchen. It’s definitely the most work I’ve put into a meal in months.

Tonight’s dinner? SPAGHETTI AND GARLIC BREAD!! I can hardly wait.

Our trainer at the gym took a new job, so last Tuesday I met with my new trainer. I was paired up with a female this time, and she has experience teaching prenatal workout classes! I really like her so far. She has most of my workout centered around movements that I will be doing a lot of after the baby is born, such as simulating picking things up, getting things off of shelves, lifting the baby, etc. I go back to see her on the 13th and then she’s going to help me do some inner thigh work. She’s very funny, too. On my workout plan, she even drew little stick figures to show how I’m to do each exercise! I’m hoping that we can pay for a few more sessions, since I only have 2 more sessions paid for with her.

I’ve been having a heck of a time finding cute, affordable maternity clothes. Stores like Motherhood Maternity are just out of my budget right now. I love stuff from Pea In A Pod, but that stuff is too expensive for me as well. The cutest stuff I’ve found is at Old Navy, but because they are phasing out their maternity sections in stores, their maternity selection on the website is mostly clearance stuff, and most of that clearance stuff they are out of in my size. I had ordered a bunch of stuff last month, but then I cancelled it and I regretted it later because when I wanted to go back and re-order, half the stuff they were out of in my size. Yesterday I picked out everything I wanted this time around, but I waited until today to place the order and by the time I went to place it, the dress I wanted had gone out of stock! I did manage to snag some cute stuff, and Vi took me to Ross and JcPenney last month and I got a few things. Still on the lookout for cute, affordable jeans. I’m still barely fitting into my Lucky Jeans that Vi gave/sold to me. They’re a size 10 and low rise, so they’re still working, but I really want some that fit a little better as my tummy grows.

I have my next OB appointment on Tuesday. I’m hoping to hear the baby’s heartbeat again. Then the next appointment (which has yet to be scheduled) should be the next ultrasound where hopefully we’ll be able to see which gender the baby is! I’m very excited for that appointment.

So far, so good!
