In Memoriam, Buster Brown 2001-2007

It occurs to me that I haven't mentioned the loss of one of my ferrets, Buster Brown The Little Clown, in June. A middle-aged sable ferret, he had adrenal disease and was doing OK, but typically lost ground whenever I went away. This last time I was in L.A., he lost more and apparently he just...wound down like a clock. Hubby and Scorp don't pay as much attention to ferrety ways and needs as I do, not being ferret people, so they didn't notice till it was pretty extreme and he was sleeping much of the time. When one evening they couldn't rouse him, they called me and put the phone up to him, and they say he stirred when I told him it was OK to go to the Rainbow Bridge if he needed to. And that night he did. I don't think he was in any great discomfort, just tired. He's with Phawcett now, being as rambunctious as they used to be together, and playing tug-o-war with the green socks I buried with her and the Beanie baby buried with him. His little body is buried in the back garden, with a statue of a fairy seated on a bench over it. In keeping with ferret sweetness and ferret mischief, it is hard to tell whether the fairy is gesturing "Sshh..." or puffing a joint.

Buster is survived by Sasha Snoo Who Says I Love You and Wunjo Man With the Mischief Plan. Sasha is also middle aged and has an enlarged spleen, and Wunjo is quite young and sprightly.

I think I'll go play with them now.
