More realism, yeah! Here are some inside snaps of Platte. Luckily, that day, when I happened to have a camera AND film, the school was open AND empty, having just finished up parent/teacher conferences. My friend and I were able to wander the halls. We did ask permission of the first teacher we saw, told her we were former students, and it was totally cool after that.
Here is the entrance to the school, the main hallway on the left of the H. On the left is the auditorium. On the right, the first two doors you see are classrooms. The third door is a janitor's closet. Sorry, Dean! On the left again, just under the sign, along the yellow wall, is the start of the lost hallway. It's the only hallway that goes off by itself like this, and leads to the bandroom, the back of the auditorium, and, alas, the mythical boiler room.
Here is the auditorium. I'm not sure why i took a picture of it, since no action happens there, but there you go.
Here's the lost hallway. Halfway down on the left is where bad things happened to Dean. At the very end, on the right, is the right turn that leads to the boiler room.
Here is the middle of the lost hallway, where bad things happened to Dean.
And here, when you make that right turn, is the end of the lost hallway. To the left is the bandroom entrance, and there is a door leading out. In the story, the boiler room is on the right, along the blue wall, and though you can't see it, there are drinking fountains just across from the invisible door.
Here are the doors to the lunchroom.
And last but not least, here is a view of the lunchroom. You can see the double doors on the far left, just under the American flag, which is where kids go in to get their hot lunches. The double doors in the middle are where they come out, and the metal hatchway on the far right is where kids dump off their silverware and trays. Poor Dean, he only got to eat in this room one time, and even that he threw up.
