A little lost here...

I was supposed to see my boyfriend this Summer and spend two weeks in Japan.
I was originally approved for vacation time by my Supervisor and the Branch manager from my job, Before I sound like a spoiled brat, and I probably will with my explanation but here it goes: I was just promoted from a part time to a full time employee for this job I work for, but had to be transferred to a different branch. As a part timer I didn't earn vacation time or benefits but we were allowed, if the supervisor approved of it, to have at least two weeks of vacation unpaid. The last time I took vacation, as a part time mind you all,was back in September of 2009, just 4 months after I started. Both my new supervisor and Branch manager were aware I was already in this system for a year, and my supervisor sympathized with my situation and understood that I would technically have to wait two years for August of 2011, cause no one in our department can take time off between the months of May-July,to actually consider going on vacation again for the amount of time I wanted She did her best to tell the branch manager that she had no issue with me being away for two weeks..cause usually it is the supervisor that grants the vacation, but I guess the branch manager didn't want a bad chain of events to follow me since I was new, to that branch*,and asking for two weeks so I was just given the week option and I turned it down. I'am over it now, since I thought about it..and realized that I wish that the branch manager was a bit more professional in dealing with my vacation request. I feel she shouldn't have said "yes" from the beginning, ask the higher ups the proper procedure to take with me since I wanted unpaid leave and got the approval from them to allow me leaving for two weeks, only to change her mind in the span of one day! She did say if I already purchased my ticket they wouldn't say no, as well as if I have planned this vacation. I planned it, but I didn't purchase my ticket cause last time I checked..nothing is official until its in writing.

Being in a LDR I understand that there are times that if we could just see our loved ones for a second we'd be happy. I just started my job in April..so to ask for an unpaid leave since I didn't have accurred time, and given a week might even look gracious to some people, but in my case 1 week does seem like a waste to me and I realized it will have heavy set backs for me in the long run. When I say "it would be a waste", I am talking on financial level. As of now it costs $1,866.33 for a 21hr flight, so no sooner I arrive I'am back on the plane. And I don't even make that much money in a month. Then I came to the notion that if I took a week off in August, then I probably wouldn't be able to take a week off again in March of 2011 when I also planned to go to Japan for my boyfriends graduation. Lastly I am now wary that even if I have the amount of time to take a vacation, it can easily be denied as it has already been proven before and I will have a new supervisor eventually as my current one plans to retire in November. So Either I will have a nice new supervisor..in a 4-5 months..cause the Branch manager is picky about who she hires, and will have to directly deal with her in terms of vacation time.

I like my job, it has its rewarding perks in terms of me helping the community and feeling like I can make a difference which I want to do. I remember my first week on the job, I had a lady tell me that she actually hated coming to the library cause the past two workers before me were no help at all but I was and she even said she wrote a comment about me in the suggestion box. But besides helping people, especially children, I also love traveling...and this job sadly will not offer both of my personal enjoyments to me. So now I'am thinking of trying to start applying again to go into teaching, possibly as a pre-k assistant..which will lower my pay unless they start me off with the maximum pay and allow me to have summers off as well as short school breaks. But I'am not that optimistic about it since I have been trying to do that since last year. It seems so got dang hard to get into the school system in Houston, Texas. It seems they fear that I have a B.A. as this was proven 4 months ago when I was turned down to be a library aide for a school I interviewed with cause they feared I would leave first chance I got.But perhaps their fears are just since I am also trying to get into the JET program which recruits native English speakers from all over the world to be assistant language teachers in Japan for next year. No guarantee I will get in, but just in case I don't, I feel working in a school setting will still workout for me in the end in terms of my personal career and my current goals. I want to be a school librarian, and it does require I have some teaching experience which I lack.

So to everyone, do you think its wise for me to just stick with my current job, get a decent check every 2 weeks, hope I get into the JET program and be out of there by August of 2011? Or should I try out to be a teacher's assistant again, or basically just try to get into the school system where I am off during the summer, get a lower pay, and still be able to get into the JET program?

Also any advice on how to get hired for schools would also be greatly appreciated!!! So far any job luck I have had in my life has been through networking =(
