I have lots going on right now, but I’m not actually going to give you tons of details because, well, some things are just too terrible to put onto the internet. Let me just make sure you’re not getting confused though - the terrible is not with Brian and I. I’ll give you bits of information later on in this post so you can have a general idea.
The works are ok, day job is about as you’d expect it always is and the magazine is sort of in hiatus because the managing editor is in China right now, I think. I know he’s in another country but I’m not sure that it’s definitely China. Anyway.
I’m excited for this weekend between our friend’s party and the Maxima convoy … and lots of other things that I will tell you about behind the cut.
So Brian, I and our couple friends Steve and Stephanie are hosting a garage sale for the benefit of our friend/neighbor who was falsely accused and wrongfully convicted of a very terrible crime. He got convicted last Friday and this last week has just been a nightmare of trying to figure out what the next step is for his wife and kids, and for him as well.
They didn’t have much money, so they just went ahead and used the public defender, figuring that it didn’t much matter if the public defender didn’t do a great job, because you can’t possibly get convicted of something you didn’t do, right?
Right?
Well sure you can! The public defender let the prosecution throw out pretty much all the defense evidence, and while there was no real prosecution evidence, he had a biased jury and he got found guilty. He’s sitting in jail as I type this awaiting sentencing, which if he doesn’t win the appeal will be for a lot of years. Sentencing is June 1, so in essence we have 2 months to find and retain a GOOD lawyer for his appeal. That will difficult considering the amount of money we’ve got to raise. We’ve already had $170 donated by random people and hopefully the garage sale will bring more.
I won’t tell you what the charges are because it’s not my place to do so, but trust me when I say they’re completely wrong. This is my neighbor we’re talking about. We see them all the time. Trust me if he was capable of what they claimed, we’d know. Anyway. It’s been difficult to say the least.
I bought a case for my Q on ebay, and got it back at the beginning of this month. It didn’t fit right, so after I threatened the seller they told me to send it back and they’d send me a new one. The new one came last night and it still doesn’t fit. Bah. I guess I’ll just keep the useless case because I don’t want to deal with it anymore.
Today’s one of those days that seems as though nothing is going right. I found out just a few minutes ago that the guy who I thought wasn’t my jerk of a boss anymore still actually is my jerk of a boss. He’s always disliked me and I was looking forward to being managed by a different person instead of him. But now come to find out, the guy who’s now the claims manager is not the claims PAYMENT manager. Ugh. And I still have a nagging suspicion that my co-worker who’s worked here half as long as I have will end up heading up my department. In which case I will quit.
I guess that’s about it. Brian and I are doing great. He’s such a good guy and so supportive.
