This one goes out to all the ladies

Quick updates since I’ve not a lot of time on my hands.

- Laura and I are doing great. We recently got Netflix and it’s amazing. I get to pick one movie, she gets to pick one movie, and we agree on the third. I am seriously in love with this service. You have no idea. Right now we have out “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” “All the President’s Men,” and “Nine Queens.” After that I have a rather substantial collection of Shaolin Kung Fu movies coming my way and I believe Laura has a collection of the BBC show “Manor House.”

- So Ian McEwan is one of my favorite currently writing authors. His prose style is florid without being pretentious. He’s an educated literatist who has a flare for narrative. Anyway, “Atonement” was amazing and he has a new book out called “Saturday” that’s at the top of the NYTimes bestseller list. And guess what!!!! We’re going to hear him give a reading at Politics and Prose [the greatest independent bookshop in DC] on Thursday! Hurray!

- Also, we’ve joined an adult kickball league. It’s mostly William and Mary alums and people who heard about it on the down low. We’re trying to get Allen and Lisa to join as well. It’s gonna be amazing. Get sloshed and play kickball. We play in Adams Morgan. Everyone should come to DC this summer to see us play. It will be amazingness.

- I competed in the Law Review Writing Competition over Spring Break. The Write-on is where most of the students in the first-year class compete for a slot on one of the three journals that are housed here at CUA. You buy a 350-page packet and you have a week or so to write a very large law review article on the topic in the packet. About 60% of the first-year class competed, and I’m guessing that about 35% of those dropped out during the actual writing. It was perhaps the most stressful time of my life. Luckily, everything went well. I was the only member of my group of friends to finish the competition. With this and my grades, I feel like I’m a strong candidate for law review for next year.

- On another legal note, I’ve been on the hunt for a job recently. Thanks to Ms. Juli Allred [You’re amazing darlin’!] I had an interview with a small wonderful firm in Fairfax City on Monday. I was hugely impressed by the partners and the office. I would be very honored to work there, and it won’t hurt to get paid to do the law ;). I was given the distinct impression that they will make me a formal offer sometime this week. Separately from that, I should have an interview soon with the legal aid clinic at CUA and I have an interview up on the Hill tomorrow morning. I’m quite excited about that one. I would love to work in the Senate, so we shall see what happens. Wish me luck!

- On the musical end of things, Laura and I will be seeing Josh Rouse in concert on the 16th. I cannot believe what a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift that was. He’s by far my favorite musician, and he’s playing very very few shows in the United States this year. I was so surprised she was able to get tickets. I am uber-excited. Plus, I recently starting really heavily listening to two artists who are new to me. First, The Arcade Fire. They sound like the Pixies, which is okay because I like the Pixies. They’re a bit overrated, but they certainly serve their purpose. Worth picking up. Second, I’ve really gotten into Ani DiFranco recently. Now that I’ve really listened to her, I’m surprised I haven’t come to her before this. She’s quite amazing. If anyone has any recommendations on what I should listen to of hers next, give me the heads up. All I’ve really heard is “Puddle Dive” so far.

- Finally, I think I’m buying a Powerbook tomorrow. I found an amazing deal on Craig’s List and I contacted the guy. Allen and I are going to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. I’m very excited. Recently Anthony got that new iBook and Mini and Mike Bland just got a new Powerbook. I was getting jealous. Plus, I hate this Dell laptop I have now. I will be so very happy to get rid of it.

Anyway, that’s a much longer post than I had thought it would be. Well, hopefully that constitutes a valid update on my life and existence as it stands tonight. To be honest, I had hoped to post more funny links or something.

Well, how about this one?
