"i like to be gone most of the time..."

i had a really busy weekend, phew!

on friday, i nannied, i babysat, then i met bria at bye and bye. we had a couple drinks with a guy she likes and some friends of his and then we went and crashed back at bria's house. saturday morning we got up, biked to jáce gáce ran into a couple people we know, hit up city bikes and popped by rerun before getting back to bria's. i really like jáce gáce, i've been there only twice and have tried each of the two (i think only 2) vegan options that they offer, but each one really impressed me. totally delicious. at city bikes i grabbed some grease and plain red handlebar tape (finally giving up my dream of red and white, striped handlebar tape, which has proved impossible to find) and at rerun i found a three great tapes (including fresh prince and dj jazzy jeff's he's the dj, i'm the rapper), some jeans, a jacket and a set of darth vader voice changer walkie talkies. i cannot express to you, dear reader, how awesome darth vader voice changer walkie talkies are... if you don't already understand it yourself, then i don't know you and you're dead to me.

after we got to bria's, we rested a few minutes, then we headed out to her shed to work on our bikes.. mostly, bria wanted to decorate her bike for the wdyr (she found a lot of great decorations and most of her "costume" at the bins earlier in the week), but i really needed some hardcore cleaning (since i actually ride my bike all winter), to apply some new handlebar tape (looong overdue) and to adjust my front and rear dérailleurs. so bria lightly cleaned her bike and i spent a good two hours gently scrubbing and soaking fast lips, applying that new grip tape and shaking my ass to the sweet sounds of fresh prince and dj jazzy jeff.

after that, i took my bike home to adjust my dérailleurs and give myself and bria a break from each other. on the way home i stopped at the liquor store and grabbed a burrito from laughing planet to fuel the last of my bike maintenance. when i finished tweeking my dérailleurs, i showered and wrote some things before my old housemate, jason came over and we headed to bria's to drink before hitting up holocene for a dose of dj anjali and the incredible kid. much fun and dancing were had and then i biked home to rest before my big ride...

sunday morning, i got dressed, had some toast and biked to bria's so that we could bike to lucky lab for the worst day of the year ride together. we got special t-shirts for volunteering and special reflectors for dressing up. there was lots of delicious food at stops along the ride, fun costumes all around and it was free for us because we volunteered! we volunteered for sign removal and were each assigned a 1/4 leg of the route, but we just did the first half of the route over again together to make each of our jobs faster and more fun. you can view all my photos from wdyr here.

i made a map of the main wdyr route, plus another map that shows my additional biking for that day with gmaps pedometer.

mapping out the worst day of the year route, i discovered i really liked gmap pedometer. its ability to make a highly detailed route really appeals to me and i see a lot of potential for it. i ended up creating two separate maps because i discovered that gmap pedometer has a points cap and i reached it only a few points into the original wdyr route + the beginning of my sign removal route. i played with it a bit and discovered it wasn't a distance cap, so, were i using less points (making the route less detailed), i could have maybe fit everything on there. also, i liked having a plain wdyr map on gmap pedometer in case other people would like to view it or link to it and my own route mapped, so it would have been really nice if gmaps pedometer not only had the ability to include more map points, but also the ability to edit, add and remove points on a previously saved route to make a new one.. you can add to a previously saved route, making a new route to save, but you can't edit and remove or add new point in the middle - at least, not that i could figure out how to.. and i spent a good amount of time dinking around with it. because i was a bit sick of dinking around with it, i didn't add in all the extra details of our extra walking around to grab signs as we did part of the ride over for sign removal..

uh, so there you have it.

how're you?
