it's been a while...a LONG while

I haven't posted on LiveJournal since I left school in May. I've been back now for a week. I don't think I'll be posting a lot anymore. I may give random overviews of months like this.

Summer: Overall? Good! I worked 40+ hours a week at MidAmerican Energy as a contract specialist/administrative assistant aka Office Monkey. The pay was great and the people were greater, so I didn't mind the insanely mundane work. In the evenings, I enjoyed a rockin' 80s good time with the cast of Footloose the Musical at the Des Moines Playhouse. It was wonderful in everyway. I love everyone in that show so much and had a marvelous time. I find myself missing them frequently.

I got a mini-vacation after the show was over and headed up to Minneapolis with my amazing mother. We saw RENT (for the second time) and it was beautiful and I cried my eyes out and I enjoyed every second of it. We also saw a show at the Fringe Fest that was written, produced, and acted by a group of Millikin grads, one of whom also graduated from Hoover. I have never been more proud to be a Millikin student. I talked with a couple of them afterward and my mom was like, "So it really is possible to do this for a living, huh?" And they were like "Absolutely!" And we talked about Millikin and the fabulous faculty and oh my GOD I love my school and my department!!!

I packed up and got back to school last Saturday and it was SO nice to be back. No matter how much I love my family and my experience-filled summer of cutting loose...footloose, I instantly feel right at home when I'm back at school with my dear, dear friends. I really adore most everything about this place. I ignore the fact that Decatur is a desolate hole in the universe and relish that Millikin is a shining star. At least from my view.

Auditions were on Thursday for The Crucible and Lucky Stiff. I felt pretty good about what I did, and I ended up getting called back for Rita in Lucky Stiff, which thrilled me because I loved that character the moment I heard her voice on the CD. She's effing hilarious. I felt really good about my callback, but I talked myself out of thinking I got the part because I didn't want to be disappointed. I pretty much fell on the floor when I looked at the cast list this morning to see that I GOT THE PART!!! I'm still kind of in shock about the whole thing!

My classes are fantastic. I can even tolerate ear training and theory because the professor is wonderful...and hot...mmmm. I adore pretty much all of my professors. Especially the acting faculty. Lori and Laura are amazing in two totally different ways and I can't wait to see where they take us this semester. I'll miss Denise this year, though. I will probably have to make frequent trips to her office especially when I get stressed for a dose of calm and maybe some t'ai chi. I have 3 dance classes this semester: tap, jazz, and ballet. Those will definitely help with my goal of losing 20 lbs by Thanksgiving. Oh, make that 16 pounds. I've already lost 4!! YAY!!!

So that's about all in my life right now. Perhaps I'll update again in another couple of months, or maybe I'll get back into this whole thing. Who knows! Hope everyone is doing marvelously!!

Love
