Haul & Quick Review: Dior Bonne Étoile 384 Couture Color Eyeshadow Palette

Aug 08, 2013 20:01

For fall, Dior launched the Mystic Metallics collection, which includes 2 eyeshadow quints, and many other items. I did pick up both palettes, and today I have a review of the first - Dior Bonne Étoile 384 Couture Color Eyeshadow Palette.

The palette is housed in the regular packaging - a blue plastic casing with 2 sponge tip applicators by the side of the eyeshadows, and a reasonable sized mirror. I personally don't use the applicators on a daily basis but they are useful on the go. The eyeshadows have super pretty stars embossed on them; probably what suckered me into buying both palettes. I already love Dior palettes and have been hoarding them for some time; add stars to them? I'll take them all please!

All 5 shades have some form of shimmer/glitter/sparkle on them. There are no matte shades, but the collection IS called Mystic Metallics, so I don't think anyone should feel shortchanged about not having a matte shade in this. I personally love shimmery eyeshadows!

All the shades are highly pigmented and smooth. The colors include a sparkly silvery-taupe, a soft shimmery green, a deep sparkling teal, a rich khaki olive and a chocolate brown. My finger swatch above totally does not do it justice - when I applied them my eyelids with a dense brush, I noticed that it applied smoother and richer than with my finger. I love all of the five colours; I have enough greens and browns eyeshadows to last me a few lifetimes but this looks special enough to add to my already uncontrollable stash.

For this palette, I did notice quite a bit of fall out when I forgot to use a primer, especially with the darker shades. But with a primer, the shadows stay put until the end of the work day with much less fall out. I would, however, still suggest putting on the eye makeup first, then the foundation so that any mess can be cleaned up. Also, with the darker shades, start lightly and build it up from there - you will be surprised how pigmented it is; I made a mistake of applying it with a very dense brush using a strong swipe the first time I used it and I looked totally crazy.

At S$98, this is not cheap. But I absolutely love it. There are stars printed on it! It's super pigmented! It's smooth and buttery! It's green and browns! Need I say more? If I can only pick 1 item from the whole collection, this would be it.
