Completed Items in May/June 2012 + Mini Reviews

Jun 16, 2012 15:26

Hi Everyone! This month's completed items list is a bit late - but it's by choice. I decided to switch things up a bit, and move it to the middle of the month because I wanted to do a monthly favourite items list, but if I was to write both the completed items list and favourite items list at the start of the month, it will be way too much.

May was an insane month but I am so thankful that it's over because I can finally breathe now. Despite the work and study load, I managed to complete a good number of items. I really want to reduce the amount of makeup and skincare I have accumulated and I am quite embarrassed to say that I added way more to my stash than what I managed to complete this month. I have a compulsive need to shop whenever I feel stressed, and makeup is my go to item to shop for.

1. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation
I've done a short overview here - I like it on days that I have rather clear skin as it is not full coverage, and it is very lightweight and smells great. It looks pretty natural and I never look like I have makeup caked on no matter how much I use - I am a fan of Bourjois liquid foundations! Definitely recommend and will repurchase. For fuller coverage, I would recommend the Flower Perfection range.

2. MAC Beauty Powder in Shell Pearl
Finally completed this! This was a limited edition from Liberty of London collection, and I love this. Although it appears pink in the pan, the colour does not translate onto the skin, unless you are extremely fair. I have pretty fair skin, and this yields no colour on me, just a sort of brightening effect like a pearly sheen. I am sad to see this go, but I have a ton of other brightening powders in my stash waiting for me to show some love for. :)

3. MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
MAC Paint Pots are one of my favourite eyeshadow bases - and painterly is one of the most neutral colours; it applies beige so it works under any eyeshadow colour. It makes my eyeshadows stay on, although the consistency is much thicker than other eyeshadow base. I think this is supposed to work as a eyeshadow colour on its own, but I never use it as such. One thing I dislike is that it is a cream in an open top jar so it does dry out and turn thicker over time so I would recommend not owning too many of it at once. Will repurchase.

4. ELF Shimmering Facial Whip
At US$1, this looked like a great deal at first but I am really disappointed with it. This is extremely frosty; as an eyeshadow, it does not stay on for long and makes me look like a disco ball. I researched on how to use it because I have heard many praises, and tried to use it as a highlighter - big mistake, it broke me out wherever I used it on. I left it alone on the counter for about 2 months, and the product separated into clear liquid and blobs of shimmer! Will not repurchase.

5. Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cream
I do love this for its efficacy; it is a rather thick cream and works great as a nightcream for my very dry skin - I wake up to well moisturized and supple skin. Whilst it does soak into my face easily without a greasy residue, it does not absorb as well into my neck areas which are less dry so I don't recommend this for oily skins. I would repurchase this if not for the smell - it might be the mushrooms, but it is awful, almost like something's rotten. It is so bad that I will not buy it again and will give any skincare items that contain mushrooms a good whiff before purchasing!

6. Guardian Facial Makeup Remover Wipes
A fuss free facial makeup remover wipe, at very affordable prices and does not irritate my sensitive skin. I don't think I will repurchase this though because it does not remove all traces of makeup, especially waterproof mascara and eyeliner.

7. Sensodyne Total Care Toothpaste
My favourite brand of toothpaste! I've been switching around all its different types of toothpaste to see if there are different effects; this is not my favourite though. I like the enamel repair range better because it taste somewhat nicer.

8. The Body Shop Almond Shower Gel
Got this as a Xmas gift, and I realised that I am not a fan of almond smelling scents. I don't hate the formula - it doesnt dry out my skin, though not a lot of bath items do - and I just can't stand the smell.

9. Sally Hansen Fast & Gentle Polish Remover
Yet another bottle of Sally Hansen polish remover! Yes, I run through these really quickly as I do my nails every 2-3 days. I never thought nail polish removers were that different between brands, until I used some prepacked ones - cotton soaked with nailpolish remover - and realised how harsh bad nail polish removers can be! My nails turned yellow and looked awful. I immediately switched back to Sally Hansen and I am now declaring that I love it.

10. Daiso Detergent for Puffs & Sponge
Another must have beauty item for me - I use about 1 bottle every 2 months to wash my brushes. Just a tiny bit in a glass of water is enough to get a good handful of brushes squeaky clean.

11. Pearlie White Chlor-Rinse
While I hate the taste of this, I think this is actually one of the better tasting mouth rinse on the market. It is slightly bitter and have a lingering taste but it is not as strong as other brands. I don't use it regularly, only once a week or so.
