The Hunger Games.

I finished reading The Hunger Games trilogy and realized I had no other place to write my impressions about it under a safe cut than my Livejournal. I haven't written anything for so long... But here it goes.

*WARNING* Heavy spoilers about the end from here (end of the books, not just the 1st movie!).

I loved it. I loved Katniss's perspective, the way she looked at things, how she was extremely human in everything she did.

She wasn't the super brave leader I expected her to turn into, she was a girl who could love and hate, be fair or unfair. That, to me,  was a very positive point.

Peeta was my favourite. I love Katniss almost as much, but Peeta was so nice and loving that it couldn't be helped. Most probably, the fact I thought he'd die anytime helped make me worry even more about him. I knew Katniss wouldn't die, not till the very end at least, so I was less scared for her. Maybe if the books had been written from Peeta's perspective, I would have feared so much for Katniss that she would have turned into my favourite character.

...Gah, let's say it's a tie, I love the both of them to pieces.

Reading the third book slowered down my working on my own manga. The second book ended in a way I wanted to cry, with Peeta being taken by the Capitol. I couldn't not go on reading ;;; So I bought the book for my Kindle and finished it in 3 or 4 days. Now I should go back to work *laughs*

During the whole series I wanted Katniss to end up with Peeta. I never really liked Gale much, but I took for granted, after watching the first movie, that she'd probably end up with him. I'm glad I was wrong.
However, I have to admit that my need for beautiful romance disappeared as I was finishing the third book. By the end Katniss is so broken in so many ways, Peeta is so hurt... that I realized how trivial a lovely romance would be at that point ;;;
I'm still happy they ended up together, it's what I wanted, but I don't think it was a "happy end" for them. It will never be.
At least Peeta will always look after her, as he seems to be the only one to really keep her sane... As much as she can at this point.

There are two scenes that made me cry in the third book:

The first one, when Katniss is drugged and finally remembers the words Peeta told her in the previous book as she was falling asleep ("always"). I'm not sure why, but that realization, in the moment it happened, made me cry.

The second one was Prim's death. I knew how much she meant to Katniss, and I liked her a lot, so that was very unexpected and cruel. It all started to save Prim, it all ended with her death.

Finnick was adorable. I loved his story, how he appears as the sexy guy with tons of lovers and you discover how he was sold and how his only love was a girl with mental issues. He really grew on me, and I liked his relationship with Katniss a lot.

I could probably say a lot more, but I can't think much ;;

I'm just glad I watched the film and decided to give The Hunger Games a try. It was very worth my time and my tired eyes *laughs*

Now I want to draw Katniss and Peeta ( . - . )
