Wow, i haven't been here in a while. two Friday 5's to do
The Friday Five for February 19, 2021 Manners - we all know what they are, we all know what they are for. Hmm, not sure some people do
1. Do you think you are more or less courteous than your parents? Not sure. A little more maybe, if i hold my tongue when i'm irritated!
2. Has the pandemic effected your manners and in what way? Not much, thanking couriers and shop assistants a little more maybe. People need to know they are appreciated and i try to be polite and friendly to everyone.
3. Do you think manners should be taught in school or at home? Both for sure, though you see quite a lot of bad manners around, so somebody's slipping up!
4. If you are a woman, do you like having a guy hold open a door for you or would you rather hold open a door for a guy? As a woman, i don't really care much but i like the courtesy at any time, especially when i walk with a stick
5. Guys, what about you? Do you like having a woman hold a door for you or does it make you feel weird. Why? Never asked them, but i do occasionally.

the Friday 5 for February 26, 2021 This week's questions are in honour of engineers week, the letter e and the number 0...
1) What has been your favourite job? Good question...have to think about this one. i liked working as a switchboard telephonist best, on both the old plug boards and the later more modern versions. i did a long stint as a Post Office-trained Tolls operator, Long Distance they call it in USA; do they/did they call it the same here? Can you still call an operator to call Collect? Dial zero? i haven't used a public phone, in like forever. i have no idea where there is one, come to think of it. i also worked for the Intercontinental Hotel in Auckland and some of the guests were quite well known. i remember the Osmond Brothers being Ambassadors for their country, lovely courtesy and manners.
2) What did you like about it? It was the differing calls all the time to different parts of the country, in this case New Zealand. i got to call some interesting places and people and the hours worked could vary. Night shifts were interesting too. i only worked for private companies in Australia and UK.
3) How can a kid become like you when they grow up? What, learn to be old, sour and bitter?? Time will make a good teacher!
4) What safeguards do you use to avoid mistakes? Try not to jump into something, try to give it a bit of thought if you can and have the time.
5) What's changed in the world that you've had a hard time keeping up with? i have to say some of the technology. First, i don't do 'smart phones', although i could have one on mine, if i wanted. All i need is a telephone, not something to use for anything else. i mean, i have a friend who uses hers for banking and heaven knows what else. It's just not for me. i like some of it. i get on well with computers and do lots of things on mine - like banking, ordering my medical needs and using emails and stuff. The Internet has been very useful in many ways before the pandemic, but has reinforced most needs i have. i can use my computer to keep me amused too, without the Internet.
That was more interesting!
