-------------------------------

I walked home from school angrily, kicking at any stone or stick that got in my way. Fuck my life.

Two weeks, it's been two weeks. Two weeks of having to see Greta in Brendon's ares, two weeks of seeing them whisper sweet nothings in the others ear, two weeks of pure hell. But it was Brendon. Brendon was my best friend. That was all. Nothing more to it. But if that's all he was, why did I hate seeing him with Greta? Because you know it should be you. I tried shaking that thought out of my head. I wasn't in love with Brendon. Nope. Of course I wasn't. In love with my best friend? Fuck I totally am. And fuck I'm totally dead.

-------------------------------

"Bren?" Greta asked, disturbing the content quiet.

It was Monday, after school and Greta was laying on her bed with Brendon, her head on his chest and his big arms wrapped around her. To her this should feel right, but it didn't.

"Mmm?"

"I love you." She said quietly, hiding the confusion in her voice. After hearing the girls going on about the fireworks they get with there boyfriends, she couldn't stop thinking about it. She felt no fireworks, she didn't feel any of the nervous butterflies when with Brendon. She just felt happy. He was her best friend, that was the way it should be.

Brendon smiled back and placed his lips on hers. "I love you too."

That was all she needed. The kiss, it didn't feel right at all. It should be Ryan. Ryan should be here, not me. Greta had seen the pained looks Ryan had when she'd been with Greta. She'd seen through all the fake smiles, all the excuses and seen the truth. She was hurting Ryan and she hated it.

"Bren, this isn't right." Greta said, standing up.

"What? What do you mean?" Brendon asked, confused.

"This. Just, I need to think. Be alone." Greta sighed.

"What did I do? Everything was fine just a minute ago."

"It's not you. You've been amazing, really. I just, I need to be alone. Please?" Greta looked at the ground.

He just looked at Greta, the time passing slowly, before slowly nodding and grabbing his bag as he left.

I flipped another hamburger angrily and let it fry. Why am I still stuck in this shit-hole of a job? Oh yeah, my father is a dick and no one else will hire me. I felt a few beads of sweat drip down my face and wiped them away with the back of my sleeve.

"Dude, you look like shit." Will said, flipping his almost black hamburger.

"Yeah I feel like it too." I grumbled.

"You seriously need a break, you've been working your arse of in here way to long dude." I opened my mouth to argue but Will did a Spencer face and I closed my mouth immediatly. "Ryan, theres going to no 'but's' and 'no's." You are walking down to that door over there, you are going to lie on that crappy couch and I am going to make you some food. Now go." He gave me a small nudge towards the employee lounge and I gave up.

Just before I walked in, I stood at the door for a minute, a smile playing on my lips.

"Will."

"Yeah Ry." He said, looking up.

"Can you teach me the Spencer bitch face?" I asked.

Will laughed and shook his head.

------------------------

I looked around the little employee lounge, I hated it. The walls were painted a dirty, off-peach color and the floorboards were old and worn. There were a few lockers, just enough for all the employee's. They were small, barely being able to fit everything you needed. They had more dints then a rally car. The fridge stood next to the locker's, it was smaller then most. No freezer. Barely worked. The couch that sat on the opposite side was the only decent thing about the lounge. It was nice and soft with a few cushions. The work of Greg's wife, who was starting a course in Interior Decorating. This lounge, was her first project. And a major one at that.

I looked up at the roof as I layed on the couch, trying to think everything through. It was impossible.

I heard a soft knock on the door and Greg poked his head in. "Hey Ry, Will said you were in here. How do you feel?"

"Better." I lied.

"That's good, someone's here to see you." Greg smiled.

I sat up, confused, as Greg moved out of the way of the door and allowed a young girl, and a middle aged lady with a pram to walk into the room.

The young girl tugged at her mother's skirt and asked in a small voice, "Is that him mommy?"

"Yes it is, baby." She answered with an excited laugh. That laugh was like music to my ears.

My mouth opened up into a wide grin. I walked over to my mom and she met me halfway, wrapping her delicate arms around my small body.

"Mom," I whispered.

"It's okay honey, I'm here." She whispered back, not letting go.

The tears ran silently down my cheeks. She let go and held me at arm's length. "You've grown up so much Ry, your beautiful."

I looked down at my feet, my cheeks going pink. I looked back at my mom and smiled.

She looked over to where Greg was standing with Kyra and holding onto Lilys pram.

"Krya, come some hi to your big brother." Mom said, bending down.

Kyra walked over to her mother's side and looked up at Ryan shyly. "Hi Ryan."

I chuckled softly. "Hey Kyra."

------------------------

"Hey, you've reached Greta. You know what you gotta do."

Brendon threw his phone on his bed and sat at his desk. He'd been trying to call Greta all evening, but kept getting the same response. He didn't know where he went wrong. He thought everything was going fine. Brendon rested his elbows on the desk, head in hands.

Walking back over to his bed, Brendon grabbed his phone and dialed Ryan's number.

"Hello?"

"Hey Ry, it's me."

"Oh hey Bren. Could you call me back later? Or we could talk tomorrow? I'm really busy at the moment."

"Oh. Yeah, sure. Talk then." Brendon hung up the phone, feeling dissapointed.

Brendon fell onto his bed and groaned into his pillow.

He knew Ryan wouldn't be that busy. He'd be walking home from work. Brendon didn't blame Ryan for not wanting to talk to him. He hadnt really been there for Ryan lately, especially since his mom had been back in his life. Brendon knew Ryan wasn't that happy with him being with Greta. He could see the hurt in the older boys eyes, the sadness. Ryan would never tell Brendon who he should and shouldn't date. He let Brendon live his own life and make his own mistakes. That's the best thing about him. Brendon shook his head. He shouldn't think like this about Ryan. It was his best friend. That was all. Brendon in love with his best friend? He so was. He was so screwed.
