I held the phone in my hand shakily, now knowing whether or not to call.

My fingers decieved me and began dialing Brendon's number and pressed the green "ring" button.

"Ryan?" He answered, still groggy from sleep.

"Yeah Bren, it's me." I tried sounding normal, failing just a bit.

"Ry, what's wrong? It's 4.30 in the morning."  I could tell Brendon was worried. I never called this early.

"Just, well. No don't worry. Forget it. I'll let you go and get back to sleep. It was stupid calling you this early." I let out a sigh, sounding tired, exhausted and trustrated all in one.

"No it's okay Ryan. I'm awake now. Just talk, talk to me. I know you need it. You don't even have to tell me what's wrong." Brendon said gently.

We spoke for a while. I told him everything. I told him about my dad. I told him about walking home from the hospital. I told him about almost losing my job, about feeling lost and insecure. I told him I was hanging on by a thread. I didn't want him knowing all this. I didn't want him knowing how much of a wreck I was. How I was shattered into peices and trying to get myself picked up without breaking again.

"Bren, I should let you go and get back to sleep."  I said.

"No, it's okay. We can talk some more." Brendon replied, stifling a yawn.

"No your tired, I can tell. I'll talk to you later okay." I chuckled.

"Yeah okay. I'll talk to you then then."

"Oh wait Bren. I gotta say something." I said quickly.

"What's up?" Brendon asked curiously.

"I, uhm. Well. Thanks. For listening. And stuff. Yeah. Goodnight." I answered.

"Oh. It's okay Ry. Night. Or morning. Whatever." Brendon said with a chuckle.

I can't believe I almost told Brendon. I almost told him something that could break everything we had already. I love you. Those simple words that could do so much more damage.

I slowly closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, dreaming about what it would be like to be able to hold you at night. To be able to kiss you just because I could. Because you were mine and I was yours and nothing else mattered.

My dreams always have been better then reality.

-----------------------

Brendon awoke early the next morning, the lovely sun shining through a gap in his curtains and thought about taking Greta to the parl for a few hours. He quickly realized that today was the day school started up again.

He walked down the stairs and walked into the kitchen. Greeted by the lovely scent of breakfast. Pancakes, ornage juice, toast and some fruit.

"Morning hun." Mrs Urie mum smiled at her young son. She put a plate in front of him and began dishing up breakfast. "Your up early."

"Yeah. Didn't sleep to well last night." Brendon yawned.

"We have to leave early this morning, I arranged to pick up Greta this morning for school."

Brendon nodded and looked at the stairs, watching his younger twin sisters clambering down the stairs

Casey walked over to Brendon first and gave him a hug, followed by Sarah.

"Morning Brenny." Casey said, yawning.

"Yeah, morning Brenny." Sarah followed.

"Morning sweet pea's."

"Sweat pea's!" They laughed.

Brendon chuckled and quickly finished his brekafast and headed upstairs to get ready.

20 minutes later he was running out the door and on his way to Greta's place, which wasn't far from his house.

They pulled into the driveway and Brendon walked up the stairs. He knocked on the door and Greta answered, one look at her and burst out laughing, her glare made him laugh harder. There she was bag in one hand, lunch in the other and a peice of toast in her mouth.

"I'm sorry Gret, I'll help." Brendon said, holding back my laughter. He grabbed her bag and put her lunch in it and handed it back to her.

"Thanks Bren, I'll just tell my mum I'm leaving."

Brendon had a little look at her house while she was gone, there was something about it that he didn't like. It was filled witha sadness, a lonliness. It didn't feel like a home. Brendon watched Greta give her mum a hug. It wasn't filled with love like it should be. No, it was just a hug. It was one of those hugs that was just given because it was just what was meant to happen.

During the short trip to school, he could see Greta's eyes were filled with sadness. Brendon reached over and held her hand. She gave him a small smile before looking out the window, giving his hand a squeeze.

Brendon sighed and thanked my mum as she pulled into the school. He let go of Greta's hand and grabbed my stuff. Walking down the long hallway heading to the office, his hand found Greta's again.

----------------------

Greta followed me through the crowded halls and into the classroom.

"Oh look who it is, ready for some fun now." Yelled out a voice from the back of the room.

Greta looked towards the sound and saw Jesse Hunter sitting with a few guys.

"Shut the fuck up Jesse." I yelled.

"Ross, how many times do I have to tell you to fuck up and go live you own miserable life." Jesse said darkly.

"You did not just say that." Greta yelled.

"Guess what princess, I did." He moved close to Greta, til he was just inches away from her face.

"Just leave her alone." I said as I grabbed Jesse and pushed him away from Greta.

"Don't you fucking dare touch me Ross!" Jesse yelled, getting up close to me.

"Is there a problem gentleman?" Mr West asked, as he walked into the room.

"No problem sir, just a fixing up a few things." Jesse said. He gave me a dirty look before moving back to his seat.
-------------------

"Greta, what's wrong?" Brendon asked.

It was lunchtime and her mood hadn't improved. In fact, it had gotten worse. Our last class with Jesse didn't help either.

"Ryan nearly got into a fight with Jesse coz of me." She said quietly.

"Greta, it's not your fault. He was being an arse to you. I wasn't just gonna sit there and let you take it." I said gently.

"Hopefully somone does smack some sense into him. He needs it." Spencer laughed.

"Yeah he really does." Greta said with a small smile.

"Greta, come for a walk?" Brendon asked.

When I saw the way he looked at her, my heart kinda just broke a little more.

She nodded and I could hear Gabe cracking a joke about it.

"Don't forget to use protection! It's always the best way to go." He yelled out.

Brendon turned around and gave him the finger while Greta just laughed.

-------------

"So you and Greta. It's official now?" I asked Brendon later that day.

Brendon gave a happy nod and lied down on his bed.

"That's good Bren. Yeah. Really good." I said, forcing myself to smile.

Brendon looked up at me, sitting by his desk, and gave me a weird look.

"Is everything okay Ry?" He asked.

"Yeah everything is fine." I answered, forcing another happy smile. "Why wouldn't it be?"
