Meteor showers make me so happy.. Honestly, I can't even explain why. Just like we're getting some secret glipse of the universe for literally a few moments out of the whole year, if we're even that lucky. Little treats. But while I was sitting there tonight, I was just trying to think of what it was about them that made me feel the way I do.. still not totally certain, but I have some ideas.

For one, they are these beautiful fiery beings.. or whatever you call them.. that truly burn up the sky, even if just for a second, but that are so full of passion and excitement that they just can't contain it anymore and they just burst. Even if they disappear, or turn to dust right after, or whatever it is meteors do, at least they lived to the fullest and went out with a bang. And it happens so quickly that you almost aren't sure if you saw them, or if it was just a figment of your imagination.. As annoying as it is, that's almost the cool part.. you can't separate it sometimes. Either way, I'm envious of the whole bit. I wish I could be a meteor..

Or, it could be how they make me feel so small. I like airplanes for the same reason. It's as if everything in my world is just so silly compared to this greater world out there. I am just one small person in this vast land, and what are my problems when everything else out there is so much larger? It just brings me back to the ground sometimes. Like out there is the real world, and mine is imaginary.

And I guess last and probably the most far-fetched reason I like meteors is sometimes I like to pretend they are lost souls. Or better yet, lost souls coming home. Either they are people I've loved and lost who are waving to me in some tiny way from the sky.. or maybe they are souls who waited for their lovers for years and years up there and they finally got to reunite.. I just like to pretend there are some people behind those bright bursts of light..

Anyway, all I know is that meteors are very special, and everytime I see one, or even think that I do, my heart beats a little faster and I just can't believe my eyes.. and I wonder how many others out there saw that exact same meteor that I did. How many moments were shared between strangers, with none of us having known? I only caught the tail end of it tonight, but it was a pretty sweet meteor shower, and reminds me of a lot of life lessons I wish could stick with me. If only more people could see them and appreciate them in the same light that I do..
