All too soon, Massu realized that it was nearing midnight. He had better take Tegoshi home before he got in trouble with Tegoshi's mom for keeping her baby out too late. Being an only child, Tegoshi was a bit spoiled.

There one problem though: Tegoshi was sleeping soundly on his shoulder. Massu looked down at his sleeping face and found his heart turning to goo. He didn't really want to wake him up. He was sure that he would be able to carry Tegoshi home, but if anyone spotted them, it would look rather odd. Oh well. Gently removing his head from his shoulder, Massu supported Tegoshi's back and shoulders with one arm and slipped his other arm underneath Tegoshi's legs. Luckily, all the stuff they had was attached securely to their obis, respectively, with an exception of Tegoshi's yo-yo balloon which was wrapped loosely around his fingers by its band. Massu nudged the balloon onto Tegoshi's lap with his hand protecting it for extra safety. He didn't want Tegoshi giving him sad looks later for breaking his balloon. Then, he slipped his arm back underneath Tegoshi and lifted him up.

Tegoshi's head rolled back to rest against Massu's shoulder as he carried him back down the path and through the emptied festival. Realizing that he didn't know when the busses ran where Tegoshi lived, he nearly panicked and woke Tegoshi up until he saw a bus coming towards him in the distance. Quickening his pace, he managed to meet it at the stop when it slowed to a halt.

Climbing into the bus proved to be a more difficult task than he expected, for the doors were narrow and he didn't want to knock Tegoshi's head against the sides. Once he managed to get up, he had to put the sleeping boy down on a seat before he was able to pay. The bus driver was looking at him quite strangely as he handed over the money.

Luckily though, Massu didn't need to suffer anymore strange looks because the bus was nearly empty; only about a handful of other people were on there, and none of them were too interested in other people when it was the middle of the night.

Massu then picked Tegoshi back up and moved them to the back of the bus for more privacy. Tegoshi went on sleeping on his shoulder for a couple minutes longer, until a bump in the road made him stir and open his eyes, groaning slightly as he woke up. "Nngh," he rubbed his eye. "Weren't we looking at the fireflies? Where are we going?"

"I'm taking you home. It's nearly midnight and you fell asleep."

Tegoshi looked guilty. "I'm sorry… you had to carry me all the way here, didn't you…"

Massu shook his head and caught the balloon from falling from Tegoshi's fingers. "It's okay. You aren't heavy at all." Tegoshi blushed and looked out the window as the bus began to slow.

"Ah, this is where we should get off."

"Already?! I thought the ride would be longer…"

"No, the rest of the way we have to walk." Tegoshi smiled and pulled on Massu's arm, dragging him out the door of the bus. When they jumped onto the road and let the bus pull away behind them, Tegoshi turned to Massu. "You don't live very close to here… maybe you should start heading back. I can go home by mysel-"

Massu covered his mouth with his finger. "No, I want to walk you home." Tegoshi nodded slowly and Massu smiled, letting his hand fall to his side and slip over Tegoshi's.

The shorter boy squeezed his hand and smiled at him. "Did you notice that you keep on interrupting me today?"

Massu shrugged. "I guess so… gomen na."

A slightly awkward silence fell between them. The same question was plaguing both of their minds: were they officially going out now? However, they were both too embarrassed to say it out loud to the other.

Trying to push it to the back of his mind, Massu tilted his head back and said casually, "You can see the stars so clearly tonight."

"Un," Tegoshi rested his head on Massu's shoulder lightly, swinging his yo-yo balloon at his side. He would usually feel scared walking around so late at night and would rush home as fast as he could, but with Massu he felt incredibly peaceful. He wouldn't even have minded if they had to walk all the way home from the festival.

Massu looked down at Tegoshi for a moment before he looked ahead at the road again. He wanted to feel Tegoshi in his arms again, but it seemed too awkward to just stop in the middle of the road and do it. But… they were getting closer to Tegoshi's house with each step. He also didn't want to part and leave the question left answered, or else it would bother him and he wouldn't be able to sleep. He gathered his courage, but in the end only bit his lip worriedly.

Sneaking a glance at Massu, Tegoshi noticed the uneasiness in his face. He wondered if he should say something, but realized that it was too late-they had begun to walk up to the front door of the house.

Tegoshi's head lifted from Massu's shoulder; Massu's grip on his hand slackened and was gone.

Both knowing that this was his last chance, they both turned to each other and were wrapped in a mutual embrace. Tegoshi buried his face against Massu, trying to get as close to the other boy as physically possible. "Don't go," he whispered. "It's too far for you to go home. We have an extra futon you can use, I…" He swallowed and finally said the words. "I want you to stay with me."

Massu stroked Tegoshi's hair and replied, "I want to stay with you too. I want to be with you... always." And he was amazed by how easily he could say the words.

They hugged for a little while longer until Massu pulled away, looking into Tegoshi's eyes. There was one thing left that he needed to do, something that would have been done already if they had not been interrupted by a certain someone earlier.

Tegoshi stared deeply into Massu's eyes. He could detect the slight hunger in Massu's gaze; he knew what he wanted. Just as Massu leaned forward, Tegoshi too leaned forward to meet him.

Massu cupped Tegoshi's face as their lips touched, loving the soft touch of Tegoshi's lips against his, wanting to taste him further but afraid to even go that far. So they pulled away. It was a short but sweet kiss.

"Let's hurry up and get inside," Tegoshi said quietly, turning to the door and opening it softly. The hall was dark. "Looks like my parents went to sleep already… oh well, they won't mind you sleeping over. Follow me, the extra futon is in the closet upstairs." He grabbed Massu's hand and they ran up the dark stairs together. When they reached the top, Massu bumped into Tegoshi from behind. Giggling, they felt their way to the closet and rolled the futon down the hall into Tegoshi's room.

Turning on a dim light, Tegoshi unrolled the futon on the floor next to his bed and stood up, surveying it. "Do you want some pajamas?" He asked, and Massu watched as he yawned widely.

"No, it's okay. I have shorts underneath this, I can just sleep in those…"

Tegoshi yawned again and nodded. "Maybe I'll do that too. I'm too sleepy to get changed…" Setting his money pouch on a dresser, he walked across the room to his desk, found a box, and placed his yo-yo balloon carefully inside.

"How long are you going to keep that?" Massu asked, amazed.

"Forever," Tegoshi answered simply.

"Why?"

"Because I like it."

Massu looked skeptical. "And if it breaks?"

"I'll still keep the pieces." Tegoshi smiled. "Even though I know I will never forget this day as it is, I still want to keep something as a souvenir."

Massu got embarrassed and mumbled, "I didn't even actually win it for you…" But Tegoshi only smiled some more and began to try to remove his yukata. His fingers were visibly trembling from tiredness; he fumbled with the obi. "Let me help," Massu said, and he steadily unwrapped from obi from around Tegoshi's waist. But when he made a move take the yukata off of the boy, he felt his heart speed up and his hands begin to tremble too. Quickly trying to calm himself, he reached out and slipped the smooth cloth from Tegoshi's shoulders, hearing it rustle softly as it slipped to the floor. Then he quickly took off his own yukata and bent to gather both of them up.

Tegoshi laid his hand on his shoulder when he bent over. "Leave them. We can take care of them later… let's just go to bed."

Nodding, Massu lowered himself down on the futon. Tegoshi slipped underneath his cover and was still. Massu stared at his bed for a good five minutes, which was faintly outlined by the moonlight coming through the open curtains. Did he fall asleep already? Didn't even say goodnight… he must have been really tired.

But as he thought those words, Tegoshi spoke. "Massu?"

"Tegoshi? You're still awake?"

"Massu, I changed my mind… do you want to sleep up here with me?"

Massu's breath caught. Then he got off the futon and stood next to Tegoshi's bed. "Are you sure it's okay? What if in the morning, your parents came in and saw us…?"

"I locked the door. I always do… and they don't disturb me if I don't have to go to work." Tegoshi scooted over in the bed to make room. When Massu hesitated, Tegoshi pulled on his hand. "Please," he asked. "I won't be able to sleep otherwise." Finally, he obeyed. As he lay down, Tegoshi snuggled up to him. Their naked chests were pressed against each other, and Massu could feel the Tegoshi's heart beating underneath his soft skin. He wrapped his arms around Tegoshi comfortably and they exchanged a series of small kisses.

Then, finally, they both closed their eyes. "Oyasumi nasai."

"Oyasumi, Massu. Daisuki da yo."

Sleep found them wrapped in each other's embrace, sharing the same pillow, their lips pink from kissing. And so the day of the Matsuri festival came to a close; it had been all that Tegoshi had wanted and much, much more.
