Life life life. How weird and unpredictable it is. Much like the weather of the past few days. One moment, rain, the next, bright, happy sunshine. There were absolutely great clouds the other day. From the front of ann lowrey's condo, which is up on a hill sort of, you can see quite a ways over oxford proper and beyond. It was a whole panorama of great white fluffiness laid out in the sky just for me. Plus, on top of that coolness, the clouds were small enough so that you could see the distinct cloud shadows flowing over the land. Awesome. Good job, God.
Ada is being baptized Sunday. For those of you who don't agree with baptism as a baby, here is a short explanation that may help you understand its purpose. The way I have been taught is that the baptism is not locking the child into a certain religion, but rather that the community is showing its willingness to raise the child as a community. It is saying that the responsibility cannot fall only on the family, but that it takes, as Hillary Rodham said, a whole village to raise a child. I think it sounds like a great plan, if a bit communistic. We need a bit more community these days. Anyone and everyone who thinks the b is cute as a button is welcome to come see her be baptized this weekend, 5:30 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church by the square. You'll have to stay for the whole service, though, so be prepared.
New thing to watch these days is the HBO series "Oz". Great acting combined with great cinematography along with cool writing makes for a great, if depressing series. It is all about the Oswald prison somewhere in NY state. Its got the black guy from Romeo + Juliet, the asian psychologist from Law & Order, and the other older white psychologist from Law & Order. Also, in a much different role, is the lady who played Carmella Soprano. Watching this is like watching the life she might have had if she had not become involved with the infamous Tony Soprano. Prison guard, working double shifts every day to make bills...tiring stuff.
Last night i was woken up by unbelievable thunder. it may have been the loudest thunder i've ever heard. and it was from pretty far away it seemed, judging by the time after the lightning that the thunder sounded. If you've never heard, count the seconds after the lightning flashes until the thunder booms, and the number of seconds is how many miles away that lightning flash is, because of the difference in the speed they travel. Cool cool cool stuff. i am neverendingly amazed by nature and the complexity of the world around us. and on that note, i'm going to read then to bed. later...
