I went today with my sister, her friend, and my bff Tracy to an anime convention. It was...different. I've never been to one. I as pretty keen on anime a few years back but I don't watch it much anymore (except my dirty, dirty not-so-secret love for DBZ especially now that the seasons are on dvd) so I was a little confused for most of it. And let down by the cosplayers. Most sucked. No cool ones like I remember seeing over the years on people's websites from when they went.
Most girls where what I was informed was "gothic Lolita", a phenomenon not big when I was into it so that was new to me. We sat in on 2 panels, one on the current state of the business which was really just random blathering from a few people in the business, though no one I've heard of. One guy worked on Inuyasha and another did a voice in Neon Genesis Evangelin which is fairly impressive I suppose. And we sat in on a discussion on the different female stereotypes in anime and how they effect us but mostly that was over my head because they referenced animes and characters from them none of us had heard of and they never referenced the female that has forever been burned upon my mind as one of them most annoying in all anime - Relena from Gundam Wing, which was really the very first anime I went fangirl for back in the day. Doubt I'd give 2 shits about it now but for nostalgias sake, I wish they'd brushed upon her because I remember there being alot of people feeling very strongly one way or the other about her back when GW hit the states. There was also a panel on a different day on yaoi and now THAT I wish I'd been there for. It was for over 18's anyway though and my sister and her friend are only 17 so that would have been mean to ditch them anyway.
So. Different. Don't know if I'll go again. Maybe. And I'll dress like one of the husier Lolita girls and drag home some helpless otaku boy and make him my manservant. Or something.
Completely off that subject, how the hell am I still the only one with
Flynn/Johnson listed as an interest in my profile? "Horatio Caine's fugly sunglasses" I'm fine with. Even "Grissom's ass". But seriously, was anyone else watching The Closer last week. Or even the last couple of weeks?!? They've got WAY more chemistry than boring ass Fritz, her actual love interest. Who I've never cared for. I get that she's his boss, but it works for Grey's Anatomy and it'd give a wonderful, angsty, dirty subplot. I'd love to watch them sneak around all next season. Yum! But alas, I've only found one person on the interwebs who even admits to seeing the heat between the 2 and no one ships them. Damn it all.
