[Fairytales don’t tell children that dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairytales tell children that the dragons can be slain. - G.K. Chesterton]
It never gets any easier. Giving Jamie up to Dan. I mean, that's what it feels like every time he picks Jamie up to do something. Last year we struggled with the fact that Jamie wanted Dan, wanted to see Dan. Dan's his grandfather and neither Haley or me can change that. But we had a block. Dan was in jail. Of course, Skills scared Jamie and he started dreaming about vampire-Dan.
When you think about it, Dan is kind of a vampire. He sucks the life out of anything and everything around him. No, I'm not ready to forgive the guy because as far as I'm concerned he's the dragon in my world. Now, he saved Jamie. He brought my son home from that psycho and then of course, the story didn't end there because this is Tree Hill and psycho nannies have to return to exact revenge. This time she kidnapped Dan (WTF) and tried to lure Jamie and Haley to this remote farm and they ran through a corn field and it was basically well, it sucked. I of course was out of town and had no idea any of this went down but Dan ended up shooting her. After Deb shattered a bottle of champagne on the bitch's head. Anyway, Dan saved my family -- again.
So, when he picks Jamie up it's...okay. It's not easy. It's not fun. And if I didn't have to I wouldn't but Dan is his grandfather and he's out of prison The dragon is more like a neutered iguana except for he's dangerous and will always be. But Haley and I couldn't come up with a better reason to keep Jamie and Dan apart.
And so I give him up once a week.
It never gets any easier.
