I was sitting eating my breakfast today and i was thinking to myself about straight edge and veganism. Both are often times thought to be very pushy towards others. Some of this has already been said but I'll say it anyways.

As a liberal/lover of revolution, I can't say that I disagree with the tactics of PETA or Truth.com (I actually love those ads) or anything anti-drug or whatever. You have to be bold, and I completely agree with the concept of getting the truth out. However, that just doesn't work for everyone. I can't say I hvae a better strategy, but people do want to feel attacked. They do not want to feel stupid for their decisions up to the present. Hopefully they woudln't and would take the opportunity to be educated, but most people don't really care to be proven wrong... despite whatever is said to them. I think the way a lot of people perceived anti-drug/meat ads is as an attack against them as opposed as simply a chance to educated them.
The problem is, most people are stuck in their beliefs based on the "choices" they didn't make, ie. being raised in a society where alcohol and meat are practically a part of the culture. Therefore, a passive, here's-the-facts type of ad might have no effect on them, and they might just tune out an in-your-face-shocker type of ad, b/c they feel it is an attack on them, and they simply don't want to hear it, perhaps because they're afraid it will try to change them, which they certainly don't want.

I hate organizing my thoughts.... I'm gonna have to stop there for sake of excessive rambling.
