Discussion Time Kids

I was sitting eating my breakfast today and i was thinking to myself about straight edge and veganism. Both are often times thought to be very pushy towards others. I mean who wants to be told what to do right? I dont like people coming up to me and shoving things into my face. Its your decision to live a certain way. As i was thinking this i was looking at an add in the paper for bacardi (spelling?) and then a few minutes later i see an add for Mcdonalds. This got me thinking even more. Are these "lives" people "choose" to live really their own "choice"? Constantly americans are being attacked by billboards, magazines ect. telling them what they should look like, what they should eat, what they should drink and so on. I decided that compared to the adds and comercials we see every day, vegans and straight edge kids dont even begin to compare. Is it because vegans or sXe kids put a human face on issues that people get so annoyed? I never see any comericals aimed towards vegetarianism or adds bashing drugs (i know truth.com and anti-drug comercials, but the money they spend on advertizing doesnt come close to tabacco or booze companies). Isnt the media being way more forceful and "in your face"? Why doesnt everyone throw their tv's out the window if they dont like being told how to live. Im not saying getting in peoples faces about veganism or sXe is right, Im simply saying we (sXe vegans) are nothing compared to our society telling you how you should live your life. Growing kids are taught to drink their milk and eat their meat to get big and strong. If someone raises their children vegetarian, people almost always worry about the children becoming malnurished. People who disagree with veggie babies hardly do their research, they are just told that vegetarian babies are malnurished by doctors (doctors get about 4 hours of nutritional training during their whole time at med school. I have sources for those who dont think thats right). All of the food pyramids that are sent to schools and put on the back of milk cartons, are funded by the meat and dairy industry of America. Our society has shoved shit in our face for so long that we get angry if anyone even tries to present another way to live. Some people are obviously more open than others, and listen to different arguments. I guess im trying to say: When someone is questioning your life style of eating meat and drinking, think if that is infact a lifestyle you chose, or one that you fell into. I think my response to all of this pressure is to push back at what society says is right. Again, like many other groups, people can fall into becoming vegan or sXe to "look cool". So next time i ask all of you who arent to fond of vegans "preaching" or sxe kids "preaching", to think about what their saying. Even if it annoys the shit out of you. Question yourself. If you dont agree then go on living. If something strikes a chord then try and figure out what about their words made you question yourself. I challange you. I know I am always on the never ending quest of bettering myself, and i hope everyone reading this is too. so....yeah
