Falling Slowly

Sungmin tightens the strings on his guitar, tuning it slowly so that Sunny can follow his steps on her own guitar. He bites his lip against the smile at her concentrated pout, and feels his heart stutter a little at the brilliant smile she shoots him as she strums and the notes come out clear and in tune.
“That’s right, isn’t it oppa?” She asks him, wide eyes shining in her excitement. She’s close enough that he can smell her perfume, and feel how warm she is, and he just wants to let himself fall into it.
“Perfect, Sunny.” He plays a chord, flinching at the sour note he hits when she smiles at him again. Sunny laughs at him, then watches carefully as he plays the chord again. She matches it on her own instrument, and he ignores his heart squeezing hopelessly.
They sit cross legged on his living room floor for an hour longer, Sungmin leading the way on his guitar, and Sunny taking baby steps that make his heart sing. He has her playing the intro to the song “Falling Slowly” when she looks at her phone and squeaks.
‘Oppa, I have rehearsal! Can I come back later and you can teach me more?” She is gathering her belongings, putting her guitar away in his room, collecting her dance bag and getting to her feet. Sungmin rises with her, walks her the few feet to his door. She turns to him, smiling shyly before leaning up and kissing his cheek.
“Thank you for the lesson, oppa. I will see you later.” And she’s out the door, dashing down the hallway. Sungmin is left standing in his open doorway, hand rubbing over his heart like he can remind it how to beat properly again.
