Music Recommendations

It's been forever since I last posted something here! I tend to forget about this place a lot nowadays, even though I used to come here every day during the past few years. I think I've been feeling a bit numb lately, and I haven't found anything to blog or write about. Luckily though, I've been listening to a lot of new music nowadays, and I've been learning new songs on the violin and piano, which I haven't played for a long time. I guess music has made me feel a little less numb these days. Especially discovering old music and making it new again.

So I though I'd share with you one of my favourite bands to listen to nowadays:

Keane

If you don't know who they are, Keane is a band from England who is probably most well-known for their 2004 single, "Somewhere Only We Know." I was still very young when I first heard their music (wow, seven years ago!), but for some reason, their songs have a quality to them that makes them trascend time, and I never seem to get sick of them. When I first saw Keane perform live, I was really surprised because they were a band that didn't even have a guitar in it! They only had voice, drums, and what makes them really unique, piano. They're not the type of rock that is really heavy, layered with guitar solos or a loud bass line. But their music is still very upbeat. They have a lot of catchy, upbeat songs, where the piano is played as successive chords with a fast drum part, as well as heartbreaking ballads which continue send chills up my spine. They're amazing musicians, all of them. And if you listen to the songs, you can hear the amazing musical talent that goes into them. The lead singer, Tom Chaplin, has a beautiful voice and a rather haunting one as well. There's not too much decoration to his voice, which to my surprise, really works with the piano and drum combo. He has a wide range and emotions seem to jump out so effortlessly whenever he sings. I admit that his voice is probably one of my favourites out of all the singers I've heard.

I recommend their Hopes and Fears album, which, in my opinion, doesn't contain one bad song. As well as Under the Iron Sea, which perhaps carries a heavier message than Hopes and Fears (the lyrics are a little angrier), I suppose. These are the songs I think should definitely listen to:

1. This is the Last Time
2. Somewhere Only We Know
3. Hamburg Song
4. Everybody's Changing
5. Perfect Symmetry
6. Is it Any Wonder

I really hope you check them out! Their music is very inspiring, and probably was the reason that got me sleeping with my earphones on again!
