Gravity - Part 1: The Fountain

Jaejoong woke up surprised. It was all a dream.

‘So everything was a dream? There were no white envelopes all over the floor? There were no necklace charms? There were no I love you’s? There were no hugs…?’

Jaejoong observed his bony neck and collarbones in the mirror. There was no charm there. But he was more than confused. Why had he dreamt that?

He checked the alarm clock. It read 7:30. The managers and the members vowed to meet in the lobby at eight. He was already behind schedule. Jaejoong quickly dug through his luggage as he found a casual pair of jeans and t-shirt. He pulled them on hastily as he ran a hand through his midnight-dark hair. A sound had came from the bathroom, and Jaejoong soon found out that it was Yunho. He had apparently finished showering and was currently brushing his teeth.

“Good morning, Jaejoong.” called out his soft yet manly voice.

Jaejoong tried to swallow all of his nervousness. “Good morning.” He managed to cough out. “How was your sleep last night?”

Yunho showed his white teeth as he flashed a smile. “It was good… what about you?”

Jaejoong was trying to hold back his laughter as a grin appeared on his face. He tried not to remind himself of the vivid dream he had last night. It was one of the most disappointing dreams ever, and waking up from it made it even worse.

“It was okay.” He assured, lying. In fact, it was one of the best yet worst nights of his life. Even the one thought of it brought a blush to Jaejoong’s cheeks. He would literally kill to make that happen in real life.

The two speechless boys stepped onto the elevator and headed down to the lobby. They strolled out, walked to the dining room, and found the other members of their group having breakfast.

“HA!” Shouted a husky voice. As expected, it was Junsu, taking back a piece of his stolen pancake from the now saddened Changmin.

Jaejoong had grabbed himself a bagel while Yoochun complained about the hotel’s breakfast and refused to touch it. He took a seat by Changmin, who looked well-rested and fresh.

“Sang Joon Hyung… what are we planning to do today?” The curious Jaejoong asked Sang Joon, who was quietly enjoying a cup of coffee.

He looked up from his newspaper. “Instead of working, Da Young and I plan to take you guys around Tokyo to go sight-seeing.” Sang Joon’s voice sounded serious yet playful. “But after this, you guys are bound to work!”

The five members let out a loud cheer as they discussed among themselves what they wanted to visit. They sighed of relief, and let their happiness out. At last, in almost two years, they were going to enjoy a day of vacation without any work or singing involved.

“Are you guys okay with that?” Sang Joon questioned the group. The answer was obvious.

“I’m okay with that…” Changmin commented. “As long as you take me to a good restaurant afterwards!”

The members glared at him unpleasantly. They stepped out of their seats, threw their trash away, and walked away from the still-eating Changmin.

“HEY! YOU GUYS!” The innocent yet immature Changmin yelled. “DON’T YOU DARE LEAVE ME!”

“You asked for it…” Yoochun was the only one that turned back to look at him.

It was hard, but Changmin eventually abandoned his breakfast in the trash. He stood up and strode along with the other members as they prepared for their thrilling day in Tokyo.

“Oh my gosh! Yoochun! You look absolutely lovely in this!”

Yoochun was trying on a Mickey Mouse hat in the Harajuku shopping district. They were currently surrounded by different unique hats, and they didn’t miss out on the opportunity to goof around in them.

Junsu, on the other hand, was finding new hats for the annoyed Yoochun to try on. He would compliment him after he tried it on, as if to praise and annoy him.

Jaejoong was jealous of the twosome’s relationship. He had secretly wished in his heart for him and Yunho to eventually be like Yoochun and Junsu. However, he knew it was impossible. A wish was a wish, and there was nothing he could do about it.

He felt a soft caress on his head. He turned around to see Yunho, who placed a cap on his head. He couldn’t help but blush as his glare locked with Yunho.

“I thought you’d like this hat.”

Jaejoong didn’t comprehend the feeling he was feeling at the moment. A force this strong had to be gravity, pulling him towards Yunho as he found himself lost in his chocolate-brown eyes.

He snapped out of his irrational thoughts and opened his mouth to speak. No sound came out.

Yunho frowned. “Fine… I guess you don’t like this style then…”

“N-no…!” Jaejoong finally found the courage to talk. “I love… I mean… I like it!” He bit his lips as blood flowed out from it. He had made a fool of himself again… and this time, in front of Yunho.

Yunho smiled almost immediately. “Let’s buy it then! I also like it a lot!” The one that Yunho was wearing was green, opposed to Jaejoong’s red one.

The two paid for their accessory, as they walked around Harajuku with their matching hats. It made them feel as if they were bonding, as is also shaded them from the harsh summer sun.

To Changmin’s happiness, the group settled down for lunch at a traditional Japanese restaurant. They left with a few leftovers and a smile on their faces. They had signed a few autographs along the way, as well as they took some pictures with their fans. The fans in Japan were different from ones in Korea. Their behavior was more calm - compared to the outrageous Korean fans.

Their next stop was Tokyo tower, where most of the tourists went when they visited the city.

Their car took them to their destination. The tower looked absolutely towering and extravagant. Despite the daylight, the tower seemed as if it was giving off a glow.

The members stared at the breathtaking view wondrously. Before they had climbed onto the monument, Da Young volunteered to take the members to a fountain in front of the tower. It was massive, with gallons of water exceeding from its center. There was a
traditional Japanese statue in the core, and it was holding a sign staggered with Japanese kanji in which the members could not recognize. Jaejoong stared at the fountain speechlessly, wondering what the group was going to accomplish there.

“Welcome to Taraka Fountain!” Da Young beckoned ecstatically. “…Or Treasure Fountain if you will… it is a great tourist site where people come to make their wishes!” She added, almost a bit too excitedly.

A/N (Author’s note): There is no such thing or place such as Taraka Fountain. I made the whole thing up! So don’t assume that it’s real!

“Why is it called Treasure Fountain?” Jaejoong thought out loud, questioning Da Young’s statement.

Da Young was glad that the young man spoke up. “It’s a long story…” Da Young reasoned. “But we do have time.”

The five members made their ears effective and alert as Da Young told the ancient story. They were eager to hear it, and they knew that Da Young was not a bad storyteller.

She cleared her throat. “This fountain is an ancient monument that the elite families built in the Edo era.” She spoke professionally. “One day, a man named Toya left for the sea in order to complete a mission. His current fiancé at the time, Ayame, was displeased with his leaving. Due to this, Toya wanted to make sure he could bring back a gift for his disappointed lover.”

“…so he made a wish here.” Jaejoong related.

“That’s correct.” Da Young snapped. “He threw in his most valuble gold coin and made a wish for himself to find treasure to bring back to his betrothed.” She paused for a few seconds as she saw the members deep in thought. “And, as a matter of fact, he had found a treasure chest full of valuables on his trip. After the journey, he brought it back from the sea to his fiancé.”

The members looked at each other remarkably and nodded their heads. An interesting story indeed, but a very unbelievable one. The curious five wondered if the unlikely story was actually valid.

“So… if you throw a coin in here… that means your wish will come true?” Yunho took his chance with the questions.

“It’s possible…” Da Young predicted, a little more nervous that she was supposed to be. “After all, a story is a story.”

Yoochun was the first and only one to roll his eyes of ignorance. “This is such a fake…” He snickered to himself. “I bet they made this whole story up just to get money from the fountain!”

Da Young gave Yoochun one of her famous ‘stares.’ It was terrifying, and almost daunting in a way. The chilling glare made the dandy Yoochun shut up and obey her obvious orders. Da Young giggled. It was just too effortless.

“Who would like to go first?” Sang Joon announced to the members. He looked around the group as no one volunteered. “I guess I will do the honor of going first!”

He stepped to the mouth of the fountain, took out a silver coin, and was prepared to toss it in.

“I wish for the members’ triumph and health this year!” He declared as he let his back face the fountain. “I also wish for my success, and hopefully, I will remain to be a decent manager!” He recklessly threw in the coin, as a soft ‘droop’ was heard.

The members laughed among themselves at Sang Joon’s wish. Da Young looked worried and shook her head. “Sang Joon - sshi… you’re not supposed to verbalize your wish out loud!” She whispered. She as well, was beaming with laughter.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Sang Joon - hyung… You’ll always be the perfect manager!” Junsu spoke, his voice overflowing with confidence.

“Yeah! I agree!” The other members followed.

The fulfilled Sang Joon smirked, and noted for each member to take out a coin. “Who would like to go next?” He asked.

Junsu raised his hand almost immediately. He took a coin out of his wallet, and proceeded to wishing.

Next was Changmin, followed by the unsure Yoochun. Then, Yunho made his wish as Jaejoong wondered what he had wished for. The pale-skinned male was the only one
left, and he was anxious to assemble his wish.

“Jaejoong, what are you waiting for?” Da Young questioned, as if she wanted answers.

Jaejoong hung his head. “Don’t you want to do it…? I mean… you’re the one who took us here!” He clearly wanted to skip his turn.

She rolled his eyes back at him. “I’ve come here millions of times…” She remarked. “So, Jaejoong, don’t be afraid and go ahead!”

“But… honestly… it’s like Yoochun said… it’s a waste of money…” He denied, using Yoochun’s words as an excuse.

“Since when have you been on a budget?” Changmin asked. “When we’re in Korea, you spend your money like crazy!”

“Yeah… and don’t listen to Yoochun!” Junsu shot Yoochun a playful expression.

He hesitated thoughtfully, as if searching for a reason not to throw in the coin. Besides, what could he have wished for?

The thought of last night’s dream hit him.

Finally, Jaejoong found his wish.

Jaejoong hastily pulled a coin out of his pocket, and turned backwards from the fountain. He was ready to make his wish.

‘I want Yunho to love me… and me only…’ He wished selfishly, as if he wanted to own Yunho’s heart. An impossible wish, but a wish that he would gladly try out.

He pitched in the silver coin.

It was over. The moment that almost seemed timeless was completed. The beautiful city, the impossible wish, and the man who looked back at him when he was making his wish. He wanted to pause at this moment, as if it was on a film he was watching.

He opened his eyes, and let reality hit him once again. From the corner of his eyes, he would swear that he saw Yunho grinning at him.

An impossible wish indeed… however, he had secretly believed that he could make this one come true.

Taraka fountain. I laughed at that part. The story’s sorta… juvenille… isn’t it?

Have you guys read ‘Seven Deadly Sins?’ It’s a YunJae/JaeHo one-shot I’ve just finished. You can find it here.

More YunJae coming up in the next chapter, so please watch out!

I’ve been reading a few fan fictions lately, and I’ve had writers block until my friends and I visited a fountain. All of us made a wish… and finally, I overcame the writers block!

(I didn’t wish to overcome the writer’s block… but it would be interesting if I did, right?)

Stay tuned! Please comment if you’ve read!

P.S. I’m thinking of making a banner for this fic… I hope I get it done in time!
