2 years later…

Tokyo, Japan. August 9th, 2011

Even after 730 days apart, I can still clearly remember the night when he and I sat upon the Ferris wheel, exchanging bittersweet words with each other as we cherished the mere minutes we shared together. The answer is yes, I still miss him. And also no, I can’t find myself loving him in the same way I used to. After these two years of lethargic waiting, I found myself slowly shedding my childish fan-boy ways and finally, becoming an adult.

I had gotten a job in Tokyo as a translator. Although it didn’t offer me much money, the occupation was rather amusing. With this, my Korean stayed on the top of its game, even if I was in a completely different country.

I can remember the days when I dreaded coming to Tokyo, hoping that somehow I would be able to relive my fond memories in Seoul. But alas, after visiting Paris and seeing the actor on the Ferris wheel, I realized that perhaps I could live on without him, knowing the fact that he still remembered me as something positive-something that changed his life for the better instead of for the worse.

We promised each other that night, after our ride on the Ferris wheel concluded, that we would continue to try our hardest, despite wherever we were. We told each other that perhaps we had gone through too much, and that we didn’t need to overcomplicate things. And like two obedient adults, we headed back to our regular lives: him, as an actor, and me… well, I wasn’t sure what I would become just yet.

It was on a late summer night when I received any word from him. I had gotten back from work that rainy night, going to my mailbox habitually and retrieving what the world had left me. I came across a mysterious letter, one with a Korean stamp upon it. It didn’t take me long to realize that it was from him.

I stayed out in the rain, too impatient to read the mail he had sent me. I didn’t care if I got wet; it was just… too exciting, after days and days of waiting to hear even a single word from him.

I ripped open the envelope, hoping I wouldn’t damage the letter that was inside.

I felt a rush of ecstasy run through me as soon as I read the last words. After all these years, I found myself sharing the exact identical thoughts with him. Like Yunho, I could not dare to live a single day without rethinking about the sugary memories we had shared once upon a time.

And to think that his contract had ended! I couldn’t feel happier, standing out in the rain and reading his shoddy handwriting.

As soon as I entered the house, I dug out a paper and a pen, planning to scribble my own words upon the parchment.

No, Yunho, I’m not a fan-boy anymore, I wrote. For goodness sake, my sexual orientation is none of your business. But  yes, I think I’m still gay.. I think you probably are too, unless you’re actually enticed by those she-devils that you’re forced to act with.

And yes, I certainly will meet you there.

I folded up the paper, and planned to enclose it within an envelope.

But there was still one thing I was dying to add:

Ah, and I almost forgot. I love you.

With the last words ringing inside my head, I went to bed that night early, knowing that after a month, I would be able to see the beast that once occupied my world once again.

1 year later…

Bora Bora. September 9th, 2012

I opened the window of our small yet serene home, located just a few blocks away from the beach. I let the salty ocean air fill my nostrils, reminding myself that this was where I belonged now.

It had been nearly a year since the former actor and I decided to settle down within the tranquil island of Bora Bora. Although we weren’t very familiar with the city or its history, we found ourselves returning to this very place time after time. After his term as an actor ended, we were able to throw all our troubles out the door and end up here, where we originally started.

As the white curtains blew across the large windows, I found myself reminiscing the day when he and I shared our first kiss on the beach, igniting an official relationship-and yet, bringing a trail of dilemmas along with it. He and I had been through tears and laughter, rain and sunshine; victory and failure. Although it felt too auspicious seeing him again, I knew that perhaps we would be able to start all over again.

The paparazzi and the unstable relationship wasn’t a problem for us anymore. The problem that constantly arose for us was money. Living on the island of Bora Bora certainly wasn’t cheap. Although our lifestyle appeared simple and undemanding, the rent was still difficult to pay at times. The money Yunho raked in from his movies was slowly dwindling down into smaller amounts as the money I earned in Japan vanished in a blink of an eye. To continue living on this island, I became the owner of a eatery on the island as he stayed home as a so-called ‘housewife.’ I chuckled, knowing how different our roles had become. It was difficult to remind myself that at one point, this man was an award-winning actor.

“Aren’t you glad I’m not an actor anymore?” He asked me as he inserted one of his movies into the DVD player. It was the one he filmed in Paris.

“No, actually.” I sighed, lying back on the couch along with him. “If you were still an actor, we’d be able to pay off our rent easily. And heck, I would be a lot more entertained.”

“I thought you weren’t a fan-boy anymore.”

I scoffed. “Somewhere inside me, I still am.”

We watched the movie in silence, reminding ourselves that during the shooting of the film, we had planned an escapade to this very island. I chuckled as the kiss scene made its appearance, reminding myself that I actually used to be angry during scenes like this.

“What are you laughing at?” He asked me, his head tilted innocently in one direction.

I tried to keep a straight face as I replied him. “You know, Yunho…that was the worst kiss scene I’ve seen in my entire life.”

He was offended. “What?”

“And this film… my God, out of all your spectacular movies, I must say that this is the worst.”

He carried irritation in his eyes. “How would you know? You’re not a film critic!”

“I have a perfect explanation for this.” I clarified. “Because during this movie, I came in and disturbed you from almost every scene you had to shoot.”

He nodded. “Makes sense.”

“Oh yes, and may I remind you? Because I randomly arrived in Paris that night, you couldn’t even kiss the actress properly!” I laughed, utterly contented with myself. “You know, this is the one kiss scene that I can’t find myself muttering ‘you bitch…’ at the actress!”

He rolled his eyes. “Well, stop criticizing this movie and embrace it.”

I agreed. “But you know what would be better?” I questioned. “What if someone chronicled our lives and put it into a film?”

“That’s a stupid idea.” He replied, not amused. “Who in the world would want to see a movie about us? It certainly wouldn’t sell well.”

“I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who would. Besides, it’s not every day that an idol falls in love with a fan.”

“True.”

I grinned. “It would sell millions, I promise you!”

“Whatever you say, Jaejoong.”

I didn’t pay any attention to his fake enthusiasm. “What should we call the film, if we ever decide to make it?”

“I don’t know… maybe… An Actor and his Fan?”

I sighed. “You know, for an actor, you’re pretty uninspired.”

“Hey, watch it. I’m the one who suggested that we escape to Bora Bora, and now you call me uninspired?”

“But that title is downright dumb, Yunho.”

He exhaled in frustration and decided to retry. “How about Beauty and the Beast?”

My mind stopped for a moment and reconsidered his words.

“Why, that’s perfect.”

Last words:

I know a lot of you weren’t completely satisfied with the ending, so instead of letting the ending rot by itself, I decided to write up an epilogue. Now that this is posted, I hope you guys are more contented =D

Yes, and I mentioned to a few people about my new fic. If you’re curious, I have the summary written up for you already!

It is going to be called Project 2035:

Fast forward to the year of 2035. The Korean republican government has fallen prey to the dictatorial regimes of the Jung family. Jung Yunho is to become Korea’s future emperor, introducing a new world to the people. Kim Jaejoong is an adroit assassin, plotting to abolish the government by shedding Yunho’s blood. It was easy at first for the shrewd assassin to kill the new leader, but will the fickle game of love serve as a worthy obstacle?

This is all I will leave you for now. The new fic is coming your way in July.

Once again, thank you for supporting this fic.

-Cindy
