Verse 14: Timeless
11:30, January 16
He won’t forgive you-your heart reminds you.-No matter how hard you’ll try to apologize, he won’t forgive you.
Turning off the last light in the recording studio, you sighed, remembering all the times Jaejoong had spent with you in this very room. You could recognize the wall where your lips first met his, and the microphone-where he sang everyday to perfect his strong and flawless notes. And now, you recognized the metal door-where you will soon be approaching and leaving this entire haven behind.
It’s funny, you think, how fate usually comes in between the closest of people and breaks them apart. No matter how close you were to Jaejoong-you couldn’t deny it, there were times when you felt the two of you were extremely far apart. Tonight was a particular illustration of that-especially when the two of you opposed heavily and yelled at each other nonstop. You don’t want to remember the look on his face-not after you recognized that tiny glint of hidden sorrow in his eyes.
But who were you to say? You had hurt him just as much as he had hurt you, hadn’t you? The two of you were even now-and you weren’t proud to be admitting it at all.
“Goodbye, SM.” You mutter into the studio as if it could understand you. All these memories would be left behind in this very room, and you would never be able to go back to those times again. You would be leaving for YG entertainment tomorrow, and you felt a little close to sick that all of this had happened so quickly.
It didn’t take long for you to arrive back at your apartment complex. It was 12:00, midnight-not a second more, not a second less. Cleaning up your office had taken quite some time out of your pockets, and you were melancholy to find how much old stuff you had dug up and recollected.
Two years of working in SM-all ruined, in one single day. It wasn’t fair.
But life isn’t fair. It never is-you were used to it already. So why were you acting like such a wimp now?
After riding up the elevator and entering your suite, you had realized that all the lights in your apartment were turned off (which meant Jaejoong was fast asleep). Taking off your shoes and leaving the light as it is, you walk into the house unnoticed, not willing to disturb Jaejoong of his long-needed sleep. Your stomach growled continuously, reminding you that you had only nibbled at dinner tonight. Opening the fridge eagerly, you found the unfinished food untouched (Jaejoong had barely eaten either). You shove through the plates and found a cake decorated in red and white icing. He had made this-for you.
Feeling that you have hurt the boy immensely, you cut a slice out of the cake and assembled it on a small desert plate. Not only was Jaejoong talented in singing, but he was an expert chef as well. You didn’t know how you would survive Incheon without all of his hearty and homemade meals.
Finishing up the cake slowly, you leave it as it is, hoping Jaejoong will see the remains of it the next morning. Full-your stomach told you, so you walked into the hallway, and then to the bedroom, where Jaejoong rested. Hesitating as you turned the doorknob, you were blinded by your fear of what you would see inside. Would there be any Jaejoong? Would he have left your apartment and went back to his own? Was he that mad at you?
Opening the door slowly-you saw just the opposite. It was like every other night-when he rested in the blankets peacefully, his velvet lips begging you for a kiss. You took off your jacket and slid in next to him, kissing his forehead in hopes that he will forgive you.
You stare into his face-something had changed. No doubt the ebony hair and pale skin stayed the same-but what was on his face was the problem. Tiny spots that looked like tear stains inhabited his face, and tainted his smooth white skin. So he had cried-he had cried when you were gone.
Grasping onto him tightly, you embrace him so that you can smell his appealing scent. “You can cry.” You softly whisper into his ears. “You don’t have to hide it. You can cry all you want in front of me.”
At that moment, you could almost swear you saw a smile appear on his rosy lips and fade away rapidly. You tangled your fingers into his hair and laughed silently to yourself. This was your last night together.
[Yoochun]
Earlier that night…
Tick, tock, tick, tock
You stared onto the clock, it was 8:30.
Tick, tock, tick, tock.
8:31.
Putting your focus back onto the sheets ahead of you, you ignore the annoying rhythm of the studio clock-its sound clandestinely lulling you to sleep. It was relatively late-not too late-but late enough to still be staying around in the empty studio. Trying to finish up the composition for an upcoming song, you were willing to stay around the piano for another few hours-no matter how tired you were.
Working in YG was in fact a blessing and a curse. There were the infrequent perks, and the occasional rewards-but not an exceeding amount of each. This was the job you had preferred all your life: not a challenge, but also not a piece of cake.
“Hey, Yoochun, you’re still here?”
Breaking your concentration on the piano and scores ahead of you, you turn your attention to the voice that had called out to you. Leaning against the door stood your associate and ally, Lee DongHae-which you have met and cooperated since your first day at YG. He worked alongside you as your assistant, and was extremely helpful when you had needed him the most. “Yeah.” You reply him silently. “You leaving soon?”
He puts on his usual smile upon his face and sits in the chair beside you. “Actually…” He murmurs. “I have some news for you…” He informs you. He pulls a piece of paper out of his bag. “I think you should take a look at this.”
Grabbing the parchment out of his hands eagerly, you found yourself staring curiously at the small document. “It looks like our sales are not doing so well.” You remark. “We’re falling far behind JYP* now…”
DongHae nods back you, his face still carrying the same mellow expression. “There will be new employees coming in tomorrow.” He reminds you. “One of them will be working with you…” He scratches his head-he was deep in thought. “What was his name again…? Jung something?”
Jung? The name was familiar in your mind. “You mean Jung Yunho?” You ask him curiously. “From SM entertainment?”
“Oh yeah!” DongHae approved. He then looks at you skeptically. “How do you know…?”
Hanging your head, you try to find a reasonable answer in your head to fulfill his question. “He and I…” You pause. “We were good friends in high school.” You lie, covering up all traces of your romance. “Will he be moving into Incheon soon?” You ask him unenthusiastically.
“I think so.” He replies. “I’ve heard from the informational meeting today that all the new employees are required to transfer themselves all the way to Incheon.” He comments. “It’s quite unfair, isn’t it?” He asks, his face carrying a bit of sympathy.
“Yeah…” You trail off-a trace of doubt lingering in your mind. Yunho was moving to Incheon, and he will be working alongside you-was this all a plan to bring the two of you back to each other? Had fate finally realized your needs?
Was it time to revive everything and start all over again?
You had millions of questions-all of them strictly unanswered. But you didn’t need to worry about that now. When the time comes, you’ll deal with it.
“Thanks DongHae.” You tell him before he leaves you all alone in the studio-again. Jung Yunho, huh? This would be interesting.
7:30, January 17
Time passes so quickly now that you’re with him.
The crisp winter breeze blows into your hair as you are embraced tightly by him. Him-whom you have loved since the beginning. Him-whom you have always desired to be with. The air was cold, and it felt dry as it reached the back of your throat. His love, however, made the chilly sensation melt away and disappear.
What incredible magic he had.
Your veins were popping as you held him close-closer than he had expected you to. You held onto your tears, and even though you knew it was better to let them fall, you tried your best not to expose them to him.
You looked up at the night sky from his embrace. A white crescent moon hung proudly on the dark background. It looked back at you as if it had wanted to tell you something-something important which you had ignored previously. It hung there as the queen of the heavens, looking down on her rebellious children.
Your stomach flips, as you finally realize what you were here for. You want to hold onto him forever, not leave him as you were about to. A selfish part of you slowly dominates your thoughts, and tells your body to hold on to his no matter what.
Then, he pushes you away.
“Yunho…”
He puts on a bright smile on his masculine features. It was fake-you knew it was. “Hmm?”
“Will the train be coming soon?”
He sighs, his hot breath evaporating into the night air. “I hope it doesn’t.” He says, a bit sarcastically. You were more than eager to get a last taste of his irritating sarcasm-it was the last bit you could have. “I was hoping the train would never come… and that I could stay here forever.”
You snort. “Are you still going on about that?” You ask as you slide yourself onto one the nearby benches. “You still expect that I’ll let you stay? After the conversation yesterday?”
He exhales wearily. “Of course.”
“Well, give it up, Yunho.” You encourage. “You don’t need to stay here for me. I will be perfectly fine.” You doubt your words as you utter them to him. “You will be fine too. You’ll meet new producers, new friends, new-“
“Jaejoong… I…”
Hearing the remorsefulness stride away from his lips left your heart stinging as it fell to pieces. “I’m sorry.” He confronts you. “I’m sorry… for everything.”
You snort playfully. “You don’t need to be sorry.” You whisper sincerely. “Besides… when have you ever hurt me?”
He laughs a bit. “Don’t you remember last night at all?” He asks. “And what if you never met me?” He questions. “You would not have to maneuver through all this crap now. You would be happier.”
You roll your eyes at him, giving him a soft kiss on the cheek. “Shut up, Yunho.” You command. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Maybe I don’t.” He silently murmured before he wrapped his arms around you-pulling you close. His arms caged around you-holding on to you tighter than ever. You slide your tongue into his velvet lips-tasting the amount of sadness he had upon his tongue. His masculine hands traveled up your spine, leaving you speechless and blind, like it always has in the past. You could swear you could taste the liquid of tears as you continued, and you were unsure if they were yours or his.
He slowly parted away, and held onto your shoulders.
The train had come-finally. Though you were waiting for the train, a part of you stubbornly did not wish it had came and stopped. Like always, there was that negative part of you, lurking in the back of your mind hoping to distract you from your goals and ambitions.
He doesn’t hesitate to stand up. Grabbing his belongings, he lifted himself off the bench, and proceeded to the open doors of the train. “Jaejoong… we’ll see each other soon, right?” He whispered silently. You nod to answer his question, the hairs on your nape standing up as his voice echoed through you. Those were the last of words you would hear from him. After this, he would be gone.
You wouldn’t be able to hear his voice anymore.
He stepped onto the train without looking back. The door closed as you catch your last glimpse of him. Your knees weakened as the engine started. It was reality: He was leaving.
It didn’t matter-you could handle it. Incheon was fairly close to Seoul, and you would be able to visit him more than occasionally.
You thought of running after the train, but you held yourself back from the childish action. He had obviously left you here, yet it had felt like he took part of you along with him. You had agreed with the whole occasion. It was okay, as long as he was happy.
The tears that you’ve hidden until now were unable to fall down. Maybe they were frozen by the cold weather-or maybe by the amount shock that hit you at a fast pace. Maybe you have already wasted enough tears for him and that you don’t want to waste anymore. You wanted to admit that you could live without Yunho, that you didn’t need his love to survive. You wanted to admit it badly-but could you?
Inside, a part of you wanted to live on without him-a very strong and large part. But it wasn’t as easy as expected. The other chunk of you wanted to die, and to leave this life for another one.
As the train left, you sat there, deep in thought-coming up with an obvious answer that you were not afraid to admit:
You would not forget him as he left. You would be his forever. And with all due respect, you promised that you would not let anyone come into the picture.
Did he feel the same?
*JYP Entertainment (
Korean: JYP 엔터테인먼트) is a
South Korean talent agency named after its founder,
Park Jin Young.
I was disappointed with this… it was fairly short, and nothing had really happened. I’m not in a good mood when I haven’t eaten anything T_T so therefore I don’t deliver good chapters >_<
WTF-my stomach hurts like hell and my head is spinning like crazy. Dshuhwefdshijsnbdsijsdsdsdghutdhahjwusrfthwes~~~~
I’ll be sure to make the next chapter better ^^
Comment, my love?
