what's the buzz, tell me what's a-happening

Ok, so exams start in just over two weeks. Is the fact that I'm only a little bit stressed a) confidence in my exam-writing abilities or b) blind optimism? Probably somewhere in-between. I'm not worried about German because it's just grammar, and I love grammar and got 92% on my last grammar test. And I'm not too worried about Legal Process because ( Read more... )

Based on what I've heard, it's performed for the public, like the French and Italian plays. And it should have surtitles. But I'm sort of wondering how the whole thing works - I don't think they perform in the Dolphin (I didn't see any German play stuff written on the walls there) and I haven't heard of this semester's play at all, even though the unit was offered and probably filled. Surely KAOS (the German club, which I'm a rep for) would have been promoting it if it existed? Wouldn't I know about it? Hmmm...

From the Handbooks website: "This unit allows students to explore and perform texts and plays written for stage. While the theoretical part of the workshops surveys the history and evolution of drama from its beginnings in antiquity to postmodernity, the practical part focuses on youthful interpretations."

It sounds like a really good unit. Maybe you just perform the play for your teachers, and the people who told me about the unit were getting it confused with another German play (?)

On a pretty unrelated note - where is the Captin Planet wall thingy going to go?

Wow, my "comment" is now fairly long. And I answered Nichola's questions in the first two sentences. That must mean I am a) thorough or b) procrastinating. Hmmm...

Well yeah, where can we fit the names of 30+ cast and crew for Captin Planet? Some of the older productions (perhaps with some apocolyptic view that there wouldn't be any more productions in the Dolphin after 2002) have really taken up more space than they needed *coughrobinhoodsbigbeanstalkcough*, but we can't just paint over them!!!

I'm under the impression that Dan did the Smerfs thing last year. But this still doesn't solve the problem of finding space to write about Captin Planet on the wall somewhere in the Dolphin. And really it has to be the green room. Maybe we can erect some more walls?

i wrote the names for smerfs and jessy did the pic. i think jess and domini wrote all the captin planet names on the wall, in a bottom corner. we're all under the impression the whole wall will be painted over real soon.

What? No! Isn't that going a little far? They're going to paint over the wall? Is this some crazy "don't trash the Dolphin" initiative? But the box and backstage areas are covered in chalk! Where will new productions go?

Ok, so I really have no right to be annoyed since I've only been in one of the productions on the wall, and I'm first year, and I don't exactly understand how the Dolphin works in terms of rights and responsibilities (except for "don't touch the cyc or John Doyle will chop up your organs into a patty"). But I thought it was a really cool way of keeping a record of all the past productions and making a mark on the Dolphin.

yeah but like, there were productions before monkey, georgia says they were all on the walls. i guess its a cycle thing, every five years it gets painted over. it sucks though that cap-p wont be there for long.

this is all hearsay by the way, im jsut basing it on the fact that the walls are mighty full of writing. i blame panto.

Oh, ok! Right, well that makes more sense - I guess it was inevitable that the old productions would have to come down make way for the next UDS masterpiece. And the circle of life continues. And we should indeed blame panto.

Yes, but with five characters to your name? I mean both of you! :P

Well, Captin Planet will live on in our hearts, even if not on the wall. *maudlin tears*
