lately, i've been thinking about culture.
and the lack of it.
it's an interesting concept, because it can very well be considered a concept in the sea of corporate offices we commonly refer to the United States of America.
Which - mind you - was a concept when it was conceived. There is no room for compassion or character in the upbeat country we've become. The most interesting part is, in writing this, i could be considered a crazy person. Or a lunatic. Or my favorite-- a stoner. Before you pass this one off, why not just read along to see where this is going? It can't be that bad, can it?
Somewhere in the past 80 years, generation after generation has been trained. Trained by the media, trained by the evolution of human kind after the invention of the car, and trained by the corporations that have set up their own worlds right here at home. Trained to be as productive as possible.
Creation:
A baby is born. 5 years into life, a structured, organized schooling system is presented to the child. As the child progresses, he or she learns and grows to be a human being. But what is the purpose of being a human being? One of the few instincts that we actively pay mind to is to keep the species going.
Where does all of the other stuff come in? I'm talking about the job that we work for by attending college (ca-ching [state name here]). We get a job that pays well so we can have all of the things we really don't need to survive. But technology is moving at a pace that we've been trained to not forget to live without. Sure, the economy is at an all time high in this country, but we're moving too quickly. There is no race. There is no end. Many people have lost all sense of culture, and small towns have been destroyed by corporations and the motor vechicle. Humankind is spiraling down natures sewage pipes far too quickly for anyone to catch on and put their foot down.
Destruction:
I like to sit around and say that I want to do something about it, but where would I even begin? I'm called crazy for thinking about it too much, but I'm not crazy, I'm thinking about the survival of the species. It is impossible to create something positive in this country at this point. It almost makes you wonder if the only way to solve problems with humanity destroying itself is by destroying the cause of it in the first place. After all, destruction leaves room for nothing but creation.
