Oh, organs acting up is no fun :/ Long term medications can be rather cumbersome to organs responsible for clearing them out of the system on a daily bases. Keeping my fingers crossed so that your doctor figures out a working new strategy and your liver will get to have a nice and healing break from all the hard work

Aaaand that's about all I can manage right now. Haha. I should've started learning Japanese a lot earlier! It's super fun and hiragana was absolutely adorable with all the gentle loops and curves.
My health is fine and I feel a bit embarrassed I brought it up on the lj at all. It turns out it was more of stress than medication that was messing up with my liver. So the doctor recommended me to, ugh, be less stressed out - which is the hardest medical advice to follow, haha.
I think it's so like grandpa to not ask for an autograph. His self-confidence is so high and robust that he doesn't need any celebrity autographs to treasure the moments like those. (That's his logic.) But still, it's a big bummer he didn't get one from a Nobel prize winner!
I'm so glad you got the stress diagnosis instead of some new and mysterious serious illness. Although, as you pointed out - it's a really tricky one to do something about. Good luck figuring that out (let me know if you find a good way ;))!

I am currently putting in a lot of effort to go through kanji right from the beginning and improve my writing skills as well, plus make my kanji knowledge more formal - I mostly lead kanji compounds intuitively, using the method of 'somehow' and context ... It's a bit mind-numbing going through the kanji I actually now, but need practice of writing and filling out any caps of onyomi/kunyomi/usage.
OMG 買い被りです！恥ずかしいですね。 My Kanji is still at a beginner's level, and I rely heavily on auto-conversion on my Japanese keyboard.
I have a feeling that kanji is going to be one big hurdle I need to watch out for in the future... especially since Chinese characters may appear similar but are all differently pronounced in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, I'm sure it's going to confuse my brain to no end. X) Whenever I look at the word 図書館, my first impulse is to say "do-seo-gwan(Korean)" or "tu-shu-guan(Chinese)."

Haha, your kanji problems are at a level entirely different XD And I thought it was hard to memorize several onyomi and kunjomi for one character ... can only imagine what it's like to have Korean and Chinese pronunciations popping up as well! All the more when they are all so similar like in case of 図書館.

It's the book I started out with all the years ago, and I must admit that back then I was rather lazy. I know these kanji and can read them in context, but if you give me a pen and ask to write them I usually come up only with a vague scheme of what the kanji should look like at best. So I'm taking advantage of existing reading/writing exercises to refresh my memory and train my hand.
Memorizing onyomi and kunjomi is a major challenge for me as well - we only have one pronunciation for each hanja(=kanji) in Korean, so it's a rather new concept. And thanks for the link - the workbook you linked is really helpful.
Great! Since you have kanji stored in your passive memory, you just have to transfer them to active memory with some writing. It won't take too long.

漢字の能力はさすがにすごいですね。日本語の勉強をはじめたばっかりのエストニア人なら、上の文章を絶対ひらがなで書きます。「日」、「本」、「土」の以外にはね。日本語の勉強を楽しむのは本当に良かったです。
