Saw Brokeback Mountain today.

I don't usually like to see movies that have been hyped beyond all belief - which is why I have never read the Da Vinci Code and will probably only see the film for all the pretty scenery.  Still, both my mother and sister wanted to see that 'gay cowboy' movie (a title which really induces the eye rolling with me, but anyway).  I suspect their main reason for wanting to see the film had to do with the strong possibility of seeing Health Ledger at least partially naked.

Still.  I liked it.  It was sweet and sad - melancholy would probably be the best word to describe it.  The cinematography was breathtaking and I sincerely hope Ang Lee takes out the Best Director for this at the Oscars.

It wasn't an Earth-shattering watershed film, in my opinion, although I can see what it may represent to some people.  But I found myself investing into the characters and their lives and that in my mind, is enough.

review, film
