This week has been a bit frustrating. I came home from pint night to find an email from my credit card company saying that a non-USAA (my credit card company) account had been attempted to be registered on Tuesday morning while I was in school and to call them if this action was not performed by me. It was definitely not a phishing scam, as I confirmed it with the credit card company. A few minutes later I had my credit card cancelled and am still waiting for a new one. When I called Equifax their computers were offline, so I tried to go to sleep, which was a bit of a joke.
Wednesday was spent going to the police to file an ID theft report, alerting my bank to what had happened and having a security password placed on it, etc., and going to the store where I suspect the ID theft occurred and speaking with their customer service department. Finally I got ahold of Equifax and had them put security checks on my accounts, which they immediatley send to Transunion and Experian. In the midst of all this I decided that having lunch with a friend would be nice, so I called up
hugs and we went to The Ship and Anchor. Thanks, hugs!
After lunch, the loss prevention investigator from the store called me back and had me read the email to her and the other loss prevention manager. Evidently this wasn't satisfactory enough because after authorizing her to speak with my credit card company, she asked me to forward a copy of the email yesterday. A detective from the Sandy Springs Police Department also called me yesterday to go over the details of what happened (as if I have nothing better to do than try to defraud myself). I picked up a copy of the police report today ($5). I'll have to get a new driver's license because that was the method of verification used on the purchase I suspect is the origin of the fraud.
Last night I took a shift for someone who was fired for repeatedly not showing up for work and not calling in beforehand or getting her shifts covered. When I walked out at 12 AM I discovered that someone had attempted to rob/steal my car, had given up, but in the process had completely destroyed the lock mechanism on the driver's side of my car. Awesome!
readerabbit hung out with me until the police showed up to file a report. Thanks, readerabbit! Upon finding out about my poor run of luck this week, the policeman, who graduated from GSU in criminal justice in 2002, jokingly suggested "don't play the lottery!" He was pretty nice, as most of the SSPD are around the coffee shop (yes, it happened in my Starbucks' parking lot). The report was filed quickly and now I have the pleasure of having to unlock my passenger-side door, lean over the seats, and unlock the driver's door from the inside to get in my car.
I filed a claim with my insurance (coincidentally, the same company as my credit card), but I'm just going to take it to a body shop my family likes and see what estimate the owner givers; if it is lower than my deductible, I'll just cancel the claim. The adjuster hasn't even called me yet.
All this, besides my completely scatterbrained Immumology prof, a final on Tuesday, another on Thursday, MCAT and the usual. Late April and May have never been good months for me, luck-non-withstanding. I'll be happy when June rolls around.
