Gorgeous Goth Guys & Girls Contest

Aug 30, 2009 00:01

This will sound a little weird, but my very first time coming across a goth in RL (real life) was in 2003 when I
went to Dragon Con. Its a Science Fiction and Fantasy convention held in Atlanta, Georgia and I went for an entirely different reason, but ended up going to see this musician--Voltaire--in concert there.

Had no idea who he was, never even heard of 'goth rock' (as my friends called it)--all I knew was the guy was friggin' hot and he was singing a song called 'Bomb New Jersey'. I wasn't in love per say, but I certainly was in lust.

That's him to the left there--like I said friggin' hot!

Anyhow it wouldn't be until a while later that I found out who he was or that he was a 'Goth' (in a truer sense of the word then those goths I had at my high school that thought wearing black made them edgy). It would be even longer yet until I found that song I loved.

What does all this have to do with Prophecy of the Sisters? Michelle Zink, in association with a whole host of us Word Ninjas, is throwing a launch party and everyone is invited! As part of the party there's gonna be a boatload of contests (all sorts) and prizes to give away. Right here on Poisoned Rationality I'll be holding a 'Gorgeous Goth Guys and Girls' contest.

But Lexie, what ever do you mean? Gorgeous Goth Guys and Girls what?

The rules are simple--send me pictures (or links to pictures) or videos (or link to) of you, your friends, your parents--whoever at all (s'long as its someone you KNOW and don't go trolling for random folks on the internet) dressed in Gothic inspired clothing.

It can be Victorian Gothic, Modern Gothic (like Voltaire), Gothic Lolita, J-Rock Gothic, Steampunk Gothic...whatever! Just make it Gothic inspired (so don't be wearing pink...unless its a pink skull or something).

And don't worry you'll have plenty of time for this contest--it runs from Today (August 1st) til August 30th, a whole month!

What's the prize you ask?

Michelle Zink (the author in case you didn't know) will be sending the winner a Prophecy playlist CD, Hot Topic gift card, Prophecy bookmark, Prophecy magnet, signed Prophecy poster, nail polish, candy, choice of DVD between Wuthering Heights or Interview with a Vampire.

How's that for incentive?

A couple of tips--
  • Go to your local bookstore (Barnes and Noble or Borders or such) and they should have a magazine called 'Gothic Beauty' (I know all the ones around me do). Look at what's in style right now for inspiration!
  • Batgear Beyond will give you TONS of links to look for Gothic clothing and accessories. I use it whenever I need props or shoes fo rmy weird cosplays.
  • La Carmina is a site me and my friends go on to see the latest Gothic Lolita styles in Japan.
So get a move on! E-mail your entries and/or links to Lexie.Cenni (@) gmail.com and let me see your dark sides darlings!

Lexie
