「大変なことはまだまだあるけど、みんなで、頑張りましょう」
I think it`s about time I post about what`s going on in Japan as well. I`m sure everybody knows about the earthquake, the tsunami, the problems with the nuclear power plant in Fukushima.
I think most people know I tend to joke around. I`m a happy person, I know the Japanese aren`t nearly taking this as hard as the people in the west are, it makes me a bit more laidback about it as well. Yes, I know it`s extremely serious, I know more than 3000 people and counting have been confirmed dead, I know tens of thousands more are missing, injured, homeless.
I as well, have not yet heard from one person. A friend I met while travelling through Japan last summer, lives in the region hit by the tsunami. I have still not been able to reach her. I wanted to try her phone, but I only have the e-mail of her phone in my Japanese phone, of which the batteries are dead. I also do not have a transformer, and thus can not charge my phone here, since there`s a good chance it will explode on me if I try.
I am worried sick about Yasuko. I`d love to believe she`s fine, but truth is, I just don`t know.
But even that aside, it hurts so, so much to see this beautiful country, this country I love beyond belief, in ruins. Friday, I cried when watching the news, and even now I can barely watch the news without holding back some tears.
So please, everyone, if you see me around being happy, cracking jokes, maybe even sometimes being a bit rude about what happened, please remember that I also am worried about people I know and don`t know, I also am keeping track of the news like insane, I also hope for this country I love so much to get through this.
「大変なことはまだまだあるけど、みんなで、頑張りましょう。」 A high school student just said this on NHK. To me, this is the ultimate proof of what this country and it`s people are like. Yes, things are tough, and they will be for quite a while, but if we all work together, we`ll be fine in the end.
Let`s all work together and rebuild this country, each in our own way. I don`t know yet how I will help, since I simply do not have any money to be able to join in in donating money or anything, but I will find a different way, and help. I will do my share. What will be yours?
