But I'm sure someone else already has too, but I'm excited anyways.
So last night I watched "My Bloody Valentine" with Dante and since this was my third time seeing it, I had some time to watch and think about different things that were going on. How Tom acted and when he seemed to switch from Tom to Harry.
I was talking to two friends who didn't really enjoy the movie cause it seemed to manipulate the audience too much and because they made it seem like Tom had dissociative identity disorder but he couldn't have had that, because some stuff didn't make sense.
I am here to prove, he DOES have dissociative identity disorder.
Okay so the scene that REALLY proves this to me, is the scene down in the mine, where Tom gets locked in the cage and he WATCHES Harry kill Red. This was obviously a ploy of the filmmakers to make people think, "WAIT A SECOND!? I swore he was the killer! Who could it be?"
But if you are crazy and watch these movies over and over again and over analyze movies people don't think that much of, then you think this *With your second or third or fourth viewing*:
"He's sorta possessed! There is an entity in his body that he can't control, it takes over and sometimes makes him watch. This was pure symbolism. Tom locked in a cage, helpless against Harry. Now as for the ridiculousness of Tom/Harry locking themselves in the cage after killing that man, it's not so ridiculous. I think Harry was aware of Tom, I think he knew Tom wasn't aware of him being HIM, so he had to keep everyone guessing so he could continue acting out his revenge.
Here's a passage from WebMD that sorta reflects this:
"As an example, someone with dissociative identity disorder may find themselves doing things they wouldn't normally do such as speeding, reckless driving, or stealing money from their employer or friend, yet they feel they are being compelled to do it. Some describe this feeling as being a passenger in their body rather than the driver. In other words, they truly believe they have no choice."
Here's another from another website:
"In some cases the patient may be aware of the switching process and feel as if they're standing back and watching it happen to someone else. This is called being "co-conscious". And at other times they may be oblivious of the switching. Switching is normally triggered in the patient, by an action which reminds the patient of a past traumatic event."
Tom was gone for 10 years, but only in an institution for 7 years. What was he doing those other three years? And did he go straight into the institution or did it take three years for him to realize he had a problem? Was it Tom who put himself in the institution, or was it his father?
These are questions only our fab writers can answer, but I think he had always been troubled and he went straight into the institution. Being away from New Harmony for all those years, probably helped, Harry probably haunted him, stayed with him the whole time, but was repressed.
OMG! Okay so I started writing this about an hour ago... then when I got to that final paragraph above this, I was like... DUH, COMMENTARY! So I started watching the commentary and now I don't know what to think, lol.
I think I just wasted an hour rambling but, OMG! You all HAVE to watch the freaking commentary, SOOOO MANY SUPERNATURAL SHOUT OUTS!!
and... I'm done
Haha, okay, so that started really strong, then I got distracted...

Okay, I'm gonna do something a bit more productive... like a reboot of a certain fic trailer I started last night!
