Rating: PG
Summary: I don't wanna give it away...but it's pretty dark. Jane talks about his daughter.
"Lisbon! Lisbon!" called Patrick Jane from across the museum, "There are dinosaurs over here!"
Lisbon sighed. "Jane, we have a case!" But he was gone. With a quick and embarrassed apology to the local officers, Lisbon took off towards the dinosaur exhibit.
"Jane?" she called. No answer. "Jane, come on, we have a case. This is childish." he still didn't answer, so she ventured further into the exhibit. She eventually found him standing in front of a t-rex skeleton.
"Jane?" she said his name gently this time, seeing the serious expression on his face. He remained silent, so she went closer and put a hand on his shoulder. She saw now that there were tears in his eyes. As she stared at his eyes, hers started to burn.
"Patrick?" she said. She never used his first name. He was always Jane to her. That helped her keep her distance from him...and sometimes that was not easy for her to do.
"Bella loved dinosaurs...since she was a baby. Especially the t-rex. She carried around a stuffed one all the time...she had dolls, too...and I did sit for a few tea parties...but she loved those dinosaurs...The Natural History Museum was the last family trip we took. I haven't been to one since...until now."
Lisbon didn't know what to say...and she worried that if she did speak she would cry, too. She wished she could help him. She wanted to fix him. And she knew that if she had the chance, she would kill Red John, too. She would never admit that to anyone, but she would kill him. Seeing Jane in pain hurt Lisbon more than she liked to admit to herself. It would never work. They would never work. She had decided long ago that she would simply not fall in love with him. But now...she knew she was failing.
"I'm sorry, Jane. You just take your time. Join us whenever you're ready. Or, even better, sit this one out, okay? Get some rest. Go to your couch." She had her hand on his back now. She knew she shouldn't. She just couldn't help it.
"No, Teresa, it's okay. I'll be fine. Thank you."
"Okay. Can I...do anything, or...?"
"No. I'll be right there, I just need to stay here a few minutes. I'll be right out." said Jane.
She nodded a tried to walk away, but her legs wouldn't let her leave him. He sat down on the floor, and she sat down right beside him. She didn't say anything, but when he leaned over and put his head on her little shoulder, she knew she had done the right thing. Lisbon rested her head on his, and closed her eyes. One tear slid down her face and into his hair. If she were ever to come face-to-face with Red John...may God have mercy on her.
