Title: More Than Words
Pairing: Jane/Lisbon
Rating: PG
Summary: Lisbon's musings about Jane.
Notes: Not beta'd.

Teresa Lisbon was in love with Patrick Jane. She knew it. Everyone thought she was in denial about it, but that was just untrue. She knew she was in love with him. She would never admit it though. Not only was it imprudent to be involved with someone you worked with, but it was imprudent to be involved with Jane. He wasn't ready. He still needed to avenge his wife and child. He still needed to kill Red John, and he wasn't going to change his mind. She loved him. She needed him. She knew that on some level he needed her. Lisbon was still a woman, and she knew when a man had feelings for her. But he would regret getting involved with her. He would feel guilty, as if he had betrayed his wife. Jane did still wear his wedding ring. Maybe he would never be able to be in another relationship. Maybe he couldn't move on. But neither could Lisbon. She didn't bother to date anymore. She could enjoy dates still, but as soon as she came to work only to see Jane sleeping on his couch, she knew she couldn't settle for another guy. She would wait for him. She knew she would always think of Jane, and that wouldn't be fair to the other man. These were things Lisbon had decided long ago. But when Jane had asked her to dance, when he had taken her hand and then held her on the dance floor, it had given her new hope. Most of the sweet things he did she could brush off as friendship, but there was something different about that dance. Lisbon had always loved that song, but now it was more than a pretty song. So much more. She didn't realize until much later how appropriate the words really were for them.

How easy it would be to show me how you feel,

more than words, is all you have to do to make it real,

then you wouldn't have to say that you love me,

'cause I'd already know.

It was in that moment, that Lisbon knew she did have hope. And that meant the world to her. That meant sanity, and it meant that it hurt a little bit less to see him everyday.
